No. 3 Baseball clinches series with 3-1 over Abilene Christian

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Baseball beat Abilene Christian, 3-1, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday afternoon to clinch the series. Texas (29-8) has won 12 consecutive games and are 29-5 over its last 34 games.
Tristan Stevens (6-1) was stellar on the mound for Texas, equaling a career-high with seven innings pitched and allowing a run on five hits with six strikeouts. Stevens has not surrendered a walk in his last three starts.
Abilene Christian (19-15) got the scoring started in the first with a pair of base hits that led to a run, giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns bats were silenced much of the afternoon but put together two base hits and a pair of walks in the sixth to even the score 1-1. Back-to-back one-out singles by Zach Zubia and Ivan Melendez put runners on the corners for Silas Ardoin, who walked to load the bases. Douglas Hodo III followed with a four-pitch walk to bring in the first Texas run.
In the Longhorn seventh, Trey Faltine led off the inning with a walk and moved to second two batters later on a ground ball to second base. Zubia stepped in and drove a ball through the middle to score Faltine and give Texas its first lead of the game, 2-1.
Texas picked up an insurance run in the eighth to make it 3-1. With one out, Eric Kennedy got aboard courtesy a bunt-single up the first-base line. Cam Williams brought him all the way home on the next pitch, drilling a ball to left to score Kennedy.
Tanner Witt picked up his second save of the season, throwing two innings of one-hit ball and striking out two to shut the door on the Wildcats.
The Longhorns will look for the sweep of the Wildcats on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
