The Longhorns host their final home meet of the season this weekend at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 6/4 Texas Track and Field program returns to the Forty Acres for the final time this weekend, as the Longhorns host the Texas Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 30-May 1, at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Dut to expected inclement weather later in the evening, Friday's scheduled changed late Thursday night where events on the track and in the field will now begin at 3 p.m. CT instead of split as previously planned.
On Saturday, competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT with the women's hammer throw. After field events take center-stage through the late-morning and early-afternoon, action on the track is set to commence at 1 p.m. CT with the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays. The Texas Invitational is scheduled to conclude at roughly 4 p.m. CT with the 4x400-meter relays.
Both the Texas men and women have been ranked inside the top 10 throughout the outdoor season, with the women holding a top-five spot for the duration of the spring to date.
Texas' women currently boast 20 NCAA Regional-qualifying marks (top 32), including nine that currently rank in the top 10 nationally. Leading the pack is jumper/hurdler Tara Davis, who remained the national leader in the long jump again this week and climbed to No. 2 in the 100-meter hurdles after clocking a 12.61 (+2.6) at the LSU Alumni Gold over the weekend. UT's other top-10 marks are helped by Stacey Ann Williams (No. 2 – 400m), Kynnedy Flannel (No. 3 – 200m), Kristine Blazevica (No. 5 – Heptathlon), Chanel Brissett (No. 6 – 100mH), Kevona Davis (200m – No. 7) and both the 4x400-meter (No. 5) and 4x100-meter (No. 2) teams.
On the men's side, the Longhorns have posted 14 NCAA Regional-qualifying marks (top 32) to date thus far, led by O'Brien Wasome's NCAA-leading mark in the triple jump. Wasome set his mark back at the Longhorn Invitational on March 6 and has held the national lead since. Seven of Texas' 14 marks rank in the top-10 nationally this season. The other top-10 marks, in addition to Wasome's, came from Micaiah Harris (No. 2 – 200m), Steffin McCarter (LJ – No. 2), Leo Neugebauer (No. 8 – Decathlon) and both the 4x400-meter (No. 3) and 4x100-meter (No. 8) relay teams. Harris set his mark in the 200-meter dash this past weekend at the LSU Alumni Gold, clocking a 20.08 (+2.4) en route to a second-place finish. His time was the fastest in all conditions on Texas record.
