No. 7 Baseball salvages K-State series

Pitchers Lucas Gordon, Luke Harrison and Aaron Nixon were outstanding on the mound.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 7 Texas Baseball salvaged the series against Kansas State with a 4-2 win on Saturday at Tointon Stadium. The Longhorns (26-12, 6-6) got solid pitching from Lucas Gordon, Luke Harrison and Aaron Nixon.
Gordon started and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks. He struck out seven batters to tie his career high and record the win.
Aaron Nixon was outstanding out of the bullpen, pitching the final 2 2/3 innings with four strikeouts to pick up his fourth save of the season. He came into the game with one on and one out in the seventh and finished the game.
Austin Todd went 3-for-5 with a double and one run scored, while Trey Faltine went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
The Wildcats scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the second inning but the Longhorns had a quick answer.
Texas grabbed a 2-1 lead in the next half inning, scoring two runs on two hits and an error in the top of the third. Faltine singled through the right side of the infield before Todd doubled to put two in scoring position. A sacrifice fly by Mitchell Daly tied the game and then an error allowed Todd to score from third.
Kansas State tied the game up 2-2 in the fourth with an RBI groundout but Gordon was able to limit the damage with a strikeout to end the inning.
The Longhorns retook the lead, 3-2, in the sixth inning on back-to-back doubles by Douglas Hodo III and Dylan Campbell.
Texas tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth after Faltine started the inning with a walk and moved to third after a wild pitch and a bunt single by Austin Todd. Murphy Stehly drove in the run with a sacrifice fly to make the lead 4-2.
Luke Harrison also pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one base runner on a walk.
Texas returns to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for the next five games, starting against Air Force on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
