No. 19 Baseball advances to Big 12 Championship game

The Longhorns took down the Cowboys, 9-2, and will face Oklahoma on Sunday at 5p.m.
ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 19 Texas Baseball bounced back to beat Oklahoma State, 9-2, in the semifinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Saturday at Globe Life Field. The Longhorns (42-18) advance to the championship game against Oklahoma on Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPNU.
The Texas pitching staff was outstanding, as five different pitchers combined to hold the Cowboys to only two runs on five hits.
Andre Duplantier II started and pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits. Jared Southard gave the Longhorns 1 2/3 scoreless out of the bullpen with a pair of strikeouts and picked up his third win of the season.
Luke Harrison got the Longhorns out of a jam in the fourth inning and went on to pitch 2 1/3 innings of relief with just one run allowed on one hit. Marcus Olivarez pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, working around two hits and striking out two batters. Tristan Stevens finished the game with a perfect ninth, including two strikeouts.
Trey Faltine had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored.
Oklahoma State got the first run of the game in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.
Texas took the lead right back with two runs on two hits and an error in the second inning. Austin Todd hit a single to start the inning and Silas Ardoin walked with one out. An error allowed Todd to score from second and an infield single by Faltine drove in the second run.
The Longhorns put together a five-run top of the third to extend their lead to 7-1. Ivan Melendez and Murphy Stehly both singled to start the inning before Todd loaded the bases on an errant throw from a bunt. With two outs, Faltine hammered a bases-clearing double to left field. Hodo followed with an RBI double of his own to drive in Faltine.
Texas expanded its lead out to 9-1 with three more big hits in the fifth inning. Faltine hit his second double of the game before pinch-hitter Dylan Campbell lined an RBI triple to center field. Melendez followed with an RBI single to drive in Campbell and make the score 9-1.
The Cowboys got one run back on a solo homer in the fifth inning to trim the lead to 9-2 but that was all.
