The Longhorn bats were held to just three runs on six hits by the Fighting Irish.

OMAHA, Neb. – No. 9 Texas Baseball dropped the opener of the College World Series to Notre Dame, 7-3 on Friday night at Charles Schwab Field. The Longhorns (47-21) will now face No. 5 Texas A&M in an elimination game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Pete Hansen started and pitched 4 1/3 innings but was tagged for six runs on nine hits. Notre Dame scored runs in four of the first five frames off of Hansen.

Tristan Stevens pitched well out of the bullpen, logging 4 2/3 innings and allowing just one run on two hits.

Dylan Campbell went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored to lead the Longhorns offensively. Douglas Hodo III and Eric Kennedy each had one hit and one RBI, while Murphy Stehly had one hit and one run scored.

Notre Dame opened the scoring with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Irish tacked on another run in the third with an RBI groundout to make the score 2-0.

Texas got a run back in the bottom of the third after Campbell walked and Trey Faltine singled to start the inning. Kennedy drove in the run with an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 2-1.

Another Notre Dame run came across in the top of the fourth to give the Irish a 3-1 lead, but Hansen was able to limit the damage to only one run and strand the bases loaded.

Notre Dame grabbed a big lead in the fifth inning, chasing Hansen from the game and expanding the lead out to 6-1.

The Longhorns got a run in the fifth when Campbell singled, stole second and scored on RBI single by Hodo.

The Longhorns kept chipping away in the sixth inning, as Stehly singled and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 6-3. Unfortunately that was all the scoring for the Longhorns.
