What's On the Line: The Longhorns travel to Lubbock in hopes of its third-straight Big 12 Conference sweep with the No. 1 women searching for its sixth-consecutive Big 12 Indoor title. The stretch would mark the longest in conference history. A win this weekend would also mark the 14th indoor title for the women. The fifth-ranked men's team is looking for a third-consecutive title and 10th overall.
Horns Competition: The women have held the top spot for four of the five weeks listed by USTFCCCA and enter conference as the lone team ranked in the top-10. Host school Texas Tech sits at No. 14, while Oklahoma State rank 23rd. On the men's side, it's a tighter race. The Red Raiders are currently ranked third with four national marks in the top-five and six in the top-10, while the Longhorns have three top-five and six top-10 marks. Close behind is Oklahoma State at No. 6 and Oklahoma at No. 23.
Longhorns to Watch: All of them, but tune in for Julien Alfred who has broken her 60m collegiate record two times this season and still leads the NCAA with her time of 7.00. Rhasidat Adeleke has the No. 1 time in the 400 (50.56) and the No. 2 time in the 200 (22.59) and ran the second leg of the No. 2 4x400 time this season. Texas women also have five athletes who have ran under 23 seconds in the 200 this season. Sophomore Ackelia Smith can do it both in the long and triple jump, ranking as No. 3 in both.
For the men, Marcellus Moore proved himself to be one of the fastest to do it in Texas history with his program record time of 6.56 in the 60 – the seventh-fastest time in the NCAA. Yusuf Bizimana and Crayton Carrozza hold the No. 1 and No. 3 times in the 800.
Horns by the Numbers: Texas has broken three collegiate records … so far.
- Julien Alfred, 60m dash (2 times)
- Beat her own previous record set in the NCAA Indoor Championships prelims
- Brian Herron, 500m
- 59.87 made Herron the collegiate and American Record Holder and is No. 2 all-time behind Abdalelah Haroun (58.83) of Quatar in 2016.
Longhorns continue to rewrite history, breaking 11 programs records this season:
- Alfred has bested her 60m record three times with times of 7.00, 7.02 twice
- Rhasidat Adeleke now holds the 400m record with her time of 50.45
- Valery Tobias broke the 800 and 1000 meter records in Boston
- The women of Rachel Helbling, Adeleke, Alfred and Kennedy Simon broke the nine-year 4x400 record in Clemson at 3:26.73.
- Moore returns to the track after setting the 60m record last time out with a time of 6.56
- Crayton Carrozza holds the 800 (1:46.28) and Mile (3:56.79) records after his trips to Boston
