Baseball sweeps Manhattan

The Longhorns scored a season-high 16 runs to finish off the sweep of the Jaspers.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball pounded out a season-high 16 runs to finish of the sweep off Manhattan with a 16-6 win on Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (9-7) scored in all eight innings they stepped to the plate and all nine Longhorn starters had at least one hit, while seven of the nine drove in at least one run.
Porter Brown went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI, while Peyton Powell finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a solo home run.
Travis Sthele was perfect through the first four innings before Manhattan was able to get to him in the fifth and sixth. Sthele finished with five innings pitched and five runs allowed on seven hits. He struck out four and picked up his first win of the season.
Cody Howard made his Longhorn debut on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.
Texas jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over Manhattan with a big bottom of the first inning. The Longhorns batted around and used five hits, two Jasper errors and one walk. Brown hit a two-run double with the bases loaded and Jack O'Dowd hit an RBI single.
Powell launched a solo home run in the second inning to extend the Longhorns' lead to 7-0.
The Longhorns tacked on another run in the third inning to take an 8-0 lead after Eric Kennedy doubled to drive in Jared Thomas. Texas scratched out one more run in the fourth inning with Brown driving in Dylan Campbell with an RBI groundout.
Manhattan cut into the Texas lead in the fifth inning with a couple of runs to make the score 9-2.
The Longhorns made it 10-2 in the bottom of the fifth after Mitchell Daly doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eric Kennedy.
The Jaspers came back and scored four more runs in the top of the sixth to trim the Longhorns' lead down to just 10-6.
Texas answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to make the lead 14-6. A two-out walk was followed by an O'Dowd single and an error for the first run. Thomas hit an RBI double to right and Ace Whitehead followed with a two-run single to left.
Brown hit his second two-run double of the game in the seventh inning and Jayden Duplantier hit an RBI double in the eighth to complete the scoring.
Texas continues its season-long 14-game homestand with two midweek games against North Dakota State on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
