No. 19 Baseball falls to Texas State

The Longhorns finished a stretch of five games in five days with a tough loss to the Bobcats.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 19 Texas Baseball lost 9-3 to Texas State to split the midweek series with the Bobcats on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (24-11, 6-3) played their fifth game in five days and came up short on Tuesday night.
Dylan Campbell went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and Mitchell Daly was 2-for-3 with a double and a solo homer of his own.
Ace Whitehead started on the mound and went four full innings. He allowed two runs on four hits, with three strikeouts and no walks but did not factor into the decision.
Cameron O'Banan made his first career pitching appearance, striking out two batters but he was charged with the loss in his debut.
The Longhorns took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Campbell's solo homer.
Texas State quickly responded with an squeeze bunt to tie the score 1-1 in the top of the second.
Texas answered back in the bottom half with a solo home run from Daly to take the 2-1 lead.
The Longhorn defense made some great plays in the top of the third to keep Texas State off the board. Daly made a spectacular jump throw for the second out and Porter Brown made a leaping catch against the wall in left field to end the inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Bobcats added one run on two hits, to tie the game at 2-2. In the next inning, they took the 5-2 lead with a two-run double.
Texas trimmed the lead to 5-3 when Max Belyeu singled and scored on a double by Peyton Powell in the bottom of the fifth.
Texas State extended their lead to 9-3 by adding one run in the sixth and three in the seventh.
The Longhorns will head back on the road this weekend for a three-game series against Baylor, starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
