No. 21 Baseball rallies for 6-5 win over K-State

The Longhorns rallied to score five runs in the eighth inning to beat the Wildcats.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 21 Texas Baseball scored five runs in the eighth inning to overcome a 5-1 deficit and beat Kansas State 6-5 to open the series on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (22-9, 5-2) trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the eighth and were held to just five hits before starting the inning with five-consecutive hits. Eric Kennedy got it all started with a bunt single before three-straight doubles by Dylan Campbell, Peyton Powell and Garret Guillemette and a triple by Porter Brown. The game-winning run was driven in on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Carlson, who came off the bench in the previous inning.
With the win, the Longhorns extended their home winning streak to 16 games.
Chase Lummus pitched two scoreless innings of relief with just one hit allowed to pick up his first career win. Zane Morehouse closed out the game with a scoreless ninth to record his fifth save of the season.
Lucas Gordan started and pitched six innings, allowing two hits and two runs with nine strikeouts. He rallied from a tough first two innings and retired the final 11 batters he faced.
Campbell went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Guillemette was 2-for-3 with a double and Brown was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.
The Longhorns got on the board with a run on three hits in the bottom of the first. Campbell hit a double to right and scored on an RBI single by Brown to make the score 1-0.
Kansas State retaliated and took a 2-1 lead with two runs on two walks and two hit batters in the top of the second.
The Wildcats added three runs to their lead in the top of the seventh to take the score to 5-1.
Texas and Kansas State will play Game 2 of the series on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and the series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
