Baseball splits doubleheader with San José State

The Longhorns bounced back to win the second game of the doubleheader 24-3.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball split a doubleheader against San José State, dropping the first game 6-4 but bouncing back with a resounding 24-3 win on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (34-18, 12-9) will hope to play the series finale on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. pending weather conditions.
Dylan Campbell had four hits on the day and extended his program-record hitting streak to 29-consecutive games. In Game 2, Campbell had a career-high three doubles.
After going 0-for-4 in the first game of the series, Eric Kennedy had a huge 4-for-5 game with two home runs and eight RBI.
GAME 1
Lucas Gordon started Game 1 and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits in his 13th start of the season. He was in line for the win until the Spartans' three-run top of the eighth inning.
Garret Guillemette launched the Longhorns into a 2-0 lead with his 11th home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning. Jared Thomas added a run to the lead in the fourth with an RBI double to drive in Jack O'Dowd and make the score 3-0.
The Spartans scored a pair of runs in the fifth to trim the lead to 3-2 but Gordon was able to get a strikeout to end the inning.
The Longhorns tacked on a run in the sixth inning after back-to-back singles from Tanner Carlson and Jack O'Dowd put runners on the corners. Jalin Flores drove in the run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
San José State battled back to score three runs in the eighth to take a 5-4 lead over the Longhorns. The Spartans tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth to make it 6-4 and finished off the win with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
GAME 2
Lebarron Johnson Jr. started Game 2 and pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts to pick up his sixth win of the season.
Texas scored a season-high 24 runs on 22 hits, including four doubles and five home runs.
The Longhorns batted around in the bottom of the first and scored four runs on four hits and three walks to take a 4-0 lead. Peyton Powell hit a solo home run to start the scoring, his ninth of the season.
Campbell followed with a double and stole second before Porter Brown walked with two outs. Eric Kennedy and Rylan Galvan hit back-to-back RBI singles and Jack O'Dowd and Cade O'Hara worked back-to-back walks to extend the lead.
Texas put up four more runs in the second inning on a grand slam by Kennedy to make the score 8-0.
San Jose State scored three runs in the top of the fifth to trim the lead to 8-3 for their only runs of the game.
Texas put up a 10-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The biggest hits of the inning were a bases-clearing double from Campbell and a three-run homer from Kennedy.
The Longhorns continued to pile on runs, with one in the seventh and five more in the eighth. Tanner Carlson hit a grand slam and Cam Constantine followed with his first career homer.
