Baseball wins San José State series with 18-6 win

The Longhorns pounded out 18 runs on 14 hits to close out the series win over the Spartans.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball hammered San José State, 18-6, to clinch the series with a run-rule win on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (35-18, 12-9) will turn their attention back to Big 12 play next weekend when they close out the regular season against West Virginia at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Tanner Witt pitched three innings and allowed three runs on two hits to pick up the win in a designated start. He struck out two batters and allowed one walk for his first win of the year.
Travis Sthele picked up the save, with four innings of relief to finish off the ballgame.
Dylan Campbell hit a two-run bomb in the first inning to give Texas a 2-0 lead and extend his Longhorn record hitting-streak to 30 games.
The Spartans hit a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead.
Texas got right back in the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second. Tanner Carlson doubled, Jack O'Dowd singled and Jalin Flores drove in the first run with an RBI double. A sacrifice fly by Jared Thomas put the Longhorns back in front, 4-3.
The Longhorns put up a four-run bottom of the third and a seven-run fourth to blow the game wide open with a 15-3 lead. In the third, Porter Brown hit a two-run single and Eric Kennedy launched a two-run homer.
Texas batted around in the seven-run fourth inning that included four hits, one error and five walks. Campbell, Flores and Thomas each had RBI singles and Garret Guillemette hit an RBI double.
The Spartans scored three more runs in the top of the sixth but Guillemette came right back with a bases-loaded double in the bottom half to make the score 18-6.
