AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball rolled to a 12-2 win over No. 6 West Virginia behind a three-homer game from Porter Brown on Thursday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (36-18, 13-9) pounded out 12 run on 12 hits and rode another great outing by Lucas Gordon.
Porter Brown went 4-for-5 and tied the program record with three home runs to go along with eight RBI three runs scored. He is just the seventh Longhorn to hit three homers in a game and the first since Murphy Stehly in 2022.
Campbell was 3-for-4 with a homer and one RBI, extending his Longhorns record hitting streak to 31-consecutive games. The 31-game hitting streak is tied for the second-longest in Big 12 history.
Gordon was brilliant, tossing seven shutout innings and striking out eight batters to pick up his sixth win of the season. He allowed just four hits and one walk in the game.
Texas got a run across in the first inning after starting the game with three-straight singles to load the bases with nobody out. Brown drove in the only run of the inning with a one-out single to right field to give the Longhorns a 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns put up a five-run bottom of the second on just two hits to extend the lead to 6-0. The inning started with back-to-back walks to Jack O'Dowd and Jalin Flores before a sacrifice bunt by Jared Thomas. Peyton Powell delivered a two-run single to drive in O'Dowd and Flores with one out. After Campbell reached on catcher's interference, Brown launched a three-run homer to right-center field.
Porter Brown hammered his second home run of the game, a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth to extend the Longhorns' lead to 8-0.
Texas tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the lead 11-0. Brown hit his third homer of the evening, another two-run shot to put the game out of reach.
West Virginia broke up the shutout with a run in the top of the eighth off of Chase Lummus and tacked on one more in the ninth off of Max Grubbs.
The Longhorns will go for the series win over the Mountaineers on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
