No. 20 Baseball drops Big 12 Tournament opener

Jack O’Dowd hit a pair of home runs but the Longhorns came up short against Kansas.
ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 20 Texas Baseball lost to Kansas, 6-3, in the first game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday at Globe Life Field.
The Longhorns (38-19) will look to stay alive in the tournament against Kansas State on Thursday at 9 a.m.
Lucas Gordon started and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out five batters and did not factor in the decision. Travis Sthele pitched four innings of relief, giving up four runs and being charged with the loss.
Jack O'Dowd had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, driving in two of the Longhorns' three runs.
Dylan Campbell went 1-for-4 with a single in the sixth to extend his program record hitting streak to 34 games, which is one shy of tying the Big 12 record.
Kansas got on the board first with two runs on two hits in the top of the third. The Longhorns got one run back in the bottom half on the first solo home run by O'Dowd. The homer came at the end of an impressive 15-pitch at-bat.
Texas tied the game up 2-2 with three-straight two-out hits in the bottom of the sixth. Campbell and Garret Guillemette both singled and Porter Brown drove in the game-tying run with a single up the middle.
Kansas quickly retook the lead, hitting a grand slam in the top of the seventh to go up 6-2.
O'Dowd hit his second homer of the game in the bottom of the ninth to trim the lead to 6-3.
