Baseball evens series with 6-2 win

Lebarron Johnson Jr. struck out a career-high 12 batters in seven innings to lead the Longhorns.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Texas Baseball beat Kansas 6-2 to even the series behind a career day on the mound by Lebarron Johnson Jr. on Saturday at Hoglund Ballpark.
The Longhorns (31-16, 11-9) will go for the series win in the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Johnson was completely dominant on the mound in the best outing of his career, picking up the win and improving to 5-2 this season. He struck out a career-high 12 batters in the longest outing of his career, going 7.0 innings. He gave up just one run, issuing only one walk and scattering just four hits on the day.
Over his final three innings on the mound, the only hitters to reach base were on an error in the fifth and a dropped third strike in the seventh.
Andre Duplantier II entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and one out and got Texas out of the jam. Duplantier was credited with the save, his first since the 2020 season.
Jared Thomas had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and one RBI. Tanner Carlson and Mitchell Daly each had a hit and drove in two runs apiece.
Dylan Campbell went 1-for-5 with a home run and extended his hitting streak to 25 games, tying the program record for the longest streak in school history.
Texas got on the board in the second inning with a run on a sacrifice fly by Carlson to make the score 1-0.
The Longhorns put together a big five-run fourth inning to extend the lead out to 6-0. Dylan Campbell started the inning with a solo home run to extend his hitting streak to a program-record tying 25 games.
With two outs in the inning, the Texas lineup then racked up five-consecutive hits. Eric Kennedy hit a triple and scored on an RBI single by Carlson. Jack O'Dowd doubled to put two runners in scoring position and Mitchell Daly drove them in with an RBI single to left. Jared Thomas capped off the inning with the second triple of the inning to drive in Daly.
Kansas got a run back with a string of two-out singles in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-1. The Jayhawks were ablet to scratch out one more run in the ninth before Duplantier closed it out.
