No. 24 Baseball wins series at No. 17 Texas Tech

The Longhorns gutted out a 9-7 win over the Red Raiders to clinch the series on Sunday.
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 24 Texas Baseball rallied for a 9-7 behind great relief pitching from Easton Tumis and Gage Boehm win to clinch the series over No. 17 Texas Tech on Sunday at Rip Griffin Park.
The Longhorns (9-6, 2-1) trailed 6-4 going into the sixth inning and scored three runs in the top of the sixth and two runs in the seventh to win the game.
Gage Boehm pitched the final four innings, allowing just one run on two hits and striking out three batters. He picked up his second save of the season by closing out the win.
Easton Tumis picked up his second win of the season, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings of relief.
Max Belyeu went 4-for-5, with two doubles, a homer and three RBI to cap off a huge weekend at the plate for him. Peyton Powell went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI, while Jared Thomas went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored.
Texas Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with four total hits including a two-run homer against starter Charlie Hurley.
The Longhorns quickly got two runs back in the top of the second, with Belyeu lining a two-run double down the left field line.
The Red Raiders extended their lead in the second inning with a solo home run to go up 4-2.
Belyeu hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3 before Texas Tech answered with back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom half to extend the lead to 6-3.
Powell hit the Longhorns' second solo homer of the day in the top of the fifth to trim the lead to 6-4.
Texas took its first lead of the day with three runs on three hits and an error in the top of the sixth. Kimble Schuessler reached on an error to start things and scored on an RBI double by Jack O'Dowd. Thomas then drove in O'Dowd with an RBI single to tie the game up. Powell drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI double down the right field line to make the score 7-6.
The Longhorns scored two more runs in the seventh, on sacrifice flies by O'Dowd and Powell to extend the lead to 9-6.
The Red Raiders got a run back in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly of their own but that was all that Boehm would allow.
