Baseball drops series opener at No. 23 Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Texas Baseball dropped the series opener to No. 23 Kansas State, 14-3, after an eight run second inning by the Wildcats on Thursday at Tointon Family Stadium.
The Longhorns (15-11, 4-3) will look to bounce back and even the series on Friday at 6 p.m.
Jalin Flores blasted the Longhorns to a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Dee Kennedy made it a 3-0 lead by hitting his first career homer out to left field. The homer was a two-out, two-run shot out to left field.
Kansas State answered in a big way in the bottom of the second, chasing Lebarron Johnson Jr. out of the game and taking an 8-3 lead with eight runs on five hits and five free passes.
The Wildcats added to the lead in the third inning with one run on three hits and tacked on another in the fifth with a solo homer to go up 10-3.
Texas got the first two men on to start the sixth inning but were unable to cut into the Wildcats' lead.
Kansas State kept tacking on runs in the bottom of the sixth with two homers off of Hudson Hamilton to extend the lead to 13-3. Another run came across in the seventh off of Cade O'Hara.
Texas scored three runs in the ninth to bring the final score to 14-6. Will Gasparino hit a solo home run to lead off the ninth inning, his fifth of the season. Flores drove in two more with a double off the wall in center field.
