The Longhorns got great pitching from Lebarron Johnson Jr. and Gage Boehm to clinch the series on Sunday.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball picked up another big series win behind great pitching from Lebarron Johnson Jr. and Gage Boehm, beating TCU 2-1 on Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (24-17, 11-7) scored two runs in the second inning on a two-run double by freshman Casey Borba and that was all they would need.

Johnson had his best outing in a few weeks, starting and pitching 6 1/3 innings with one run allowed on just three hits. He struck out seven batters and picked up his second win of the season.

Boehm entered the game with one out and one runner on in the seventh and finished out the ballgame to earn his fourth save of the season. In all, he pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings with one strikeout.

TCU got a run in the second inning after a double and back-to-back wild pitches to take a 1-0 lead but that was all the scoring for the Horned Frogs.

The Longhorns had an answer in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead. After walks to Kimble Schuessler and Rylan Galvan, TCU made a pitching change and Borba greeted the reliever with a two-run double.

TCU loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but Gage Boehm was able to escape the jam with the 2-1 lead still intact.

Texas scored a run in the seventh on a two-out RBI single by Max Belyeu but the umpires ruled that the runner at first was hit by the batted ball and the run was taken off the board. Following the umpire ruling, head coach David Pierce was ejected from the game.

That play would not end up costing Texas, as Boehm was nearly perfect in relief to close out the game.

Texas is back at home to host UT Arlington on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field before heading back on the road to face Oklahoma next weekend.
