Morrison sinks a short birdie putt on his final hole to lead the Longhorns to a one-stroke victory over host Arizona.
TUCSON, Ariz. — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team carded a final-round score of 10-under 278, and senior Tommy Morrison capped a dramatic finish by making a short birdie putt on his final hole to lead the Longhorns to the team championship at the Arizona N.I.T. on Tuesday at Omni Tucson National Resort. This marked UT's second team title during the 2025-26 season, as it previously shared the championship at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 29-30).
The Longhorns posted a three-round score of 41-under 823 (275-270-278), just one stroke ahead of tourney host Arizona at 40-under 824 (267-288-269). Iowa State took third at 29-under 835 (284-285-266).
The Wildcats held a one-stroke lead entering the 54th and final hole of the tournament, before Arizona's William Wistrand made a bogey on hole 18 to drop the Wildcats into a tie with the Longhorns. That set the stage for Morrison, who hit a beautiful pitch to within two feet on his third shot on the par-five 2nd hole. Morrison then sank his birdie putt to seal the team championship for Texas.
Monday's play was scheduled for 36 holes but was suspended at 7 p.m. Central (6 p.m. Mountain) with the 13-team field through 12 or 13 holes in their respective second round. Second-round play resumed at 9:30 a.m. Central (8:30 a.m. Mountain) on Tuesday and was followed by the final round of action. The Longhorns return to action when they travel to Waimea, Hawaii to compete in the Amer Ari Invitational on Feb. 5-7 (Thursday-Saturday).
