THE MATCHUP — Coming off its 15th consecutive victory to open the season, No. 2 Texas plays its first true road contest at Texas State on Tuesday. In the all-time series, the Longhorns boast a 57-17 lead. Texas has won 11 of the 13 head-to-head meetings in San Marcos, including six straight games. Last season, the Longhorns rallied to win a 14-11 slugfest over the Bobcats on April 22. Texas State head coach Steven Trout played for Texas skipper Jim Schlossnagle during the 2006-07 seasons at TCU. Across those two years, the Horned Frogs went a combined 87-37 (.702).
STARTING OFF STRONG — Texas is one of the final two remaining unbeaten teams in the country, alongside USC. The Longhorns' 15-0 record marks their best start to a season in 21 years. Through 15 contests, Texas has outscored its opponents, 147-36. The Longhorns have run-ruled their opposition on six occasions, including three times in the last four games. Texas has mounted double-digit tallies in five straight contests for the first time since 1989. As of March 9, the Longhorns rank 10th in OPS (1.033) and 11th in average (.337) nationally. On the mound, Texas has posted the country's third-best ERA (2.30) and seventh-best WHIP (1.02). Meanwhile, the Longhorns' .988 fielding percentage is fifth-best in all of Division I Baseball.
BREAK OUT THE BROOMS, AGAIN — For the third home weekend in a row, Texas swept all three games at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. In the series opener against USC Upstate on Friday, the Longhorns launched a season-high five homers to deliver a 14-2 run-rule victory. Texas scored in six of the eight innings, punctuated by Anthony Pack Jr.'s game-ending grand slam. On Saturday, Texas secured the series with an 11-9 win. The Longhorns used a seven-spot in the fifth and held off a late rally to clinch the series. In the finale, Josh Livingston and Casey Borba combined for three homers and 11 RBI to lead Texas to a sweep-securing 13-3 victory. Livingston smacked a grand slam in the sixth before his walk-off shot in the eighth.
THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU — Heading into the fifth week of the season, Texas is a consensus top-3 team. The Longhorns check in at No. 2, according to D1Baseball, the NCBWA, Perfect Game and USA Today. Texas was also listed third by Baseball America.
MASTERING MIDWEEKS — Texas is 3-0 in midweek games, registering three consecutive run-rule wins on Tuesdays. Last season, the Longhorns went 9-2 in midweeks. Since 2020, Jim Schlossnagle's clubs have notched a 55-10 (.846) ledger in midweek contests, winning 27 of the last 30 games.
