No. 12 Baseball drops series finale versus No. 2 Stanford, 15-1

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 12 Texas Longhorns were doomed by a 13-run fourth inning by the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal in a 15-1 loss at Sunken Diamond on Sunday afternoon.
Stanford (7-0) drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Tyler Gaffney singled to rightfield and after Stephen Piscotty flied out to centerfield, Brian Ragira singled up the middle. Kenny Diekroeger knocked in the two-out run with a single up the middle for the 1-0 lead.
Texas (2-5) knotted the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Erich Weiss deposited a leadoff double into rightfield and with one out stole third base. After Jacob Felts was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners, Kevin Lusson hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield to push Weiss across for the equalizer.
The Cardinal pounced on the Longhorns with 13 runs in the fourth inning to take a 14-1 lead. The inning featured nine hits, three walks and three hit batters.
John Curtiss (0-2) was saddled with the loss for the Longhorns. He yielded four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three over 3.0 innings.
John Hochstatter (1-0) earned the victory for Stanford, yielding one run on five hits and three walks while striking out four over 6.1 innings.
Mark Payton paced Texas' offense, going 2-for-5 at the plate.
Diekroeger paced Stanford at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one double and two RBI. Piscotty went 2-for-5 with one double and four RBI. Christian Griffths, Lonnie Kauppila and Eric Smith also registered two hits apiece
Texas returns to action on Tuesday when the Longhorns host the Houston Baptist Huskies at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
