THE MATCHUP
The Longhorns lead the overall series, 73-19, but the Bearkats have won two of the last three meetings and two straight in Austin: 5-3 in 2013 and 5-0 in 2015.

A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Texas was swept in a four-game series against No. 12 California last weekend in Austin…it was the first four-game sweep in Longhorns history…Texas looked poised to win the series finale, but a five-run ninth inning tied the game and sent it to extras…the Longhorns are now 1-3 in extra-inning games.
A LOOK AT THE BEARKATS—Sam Houston is coming off its second weekend series win, taking 2-of-3 at Wichita State…the Bearkats hit .320 as a team and went 6-for-7 in stolen base attempts…five current Bearkats appeared in last season's 5-0 win over Texas in Austin…the Bearkats are in the midst of a season-tying long seven-game road trip.
RANKED OPPONENTS—Last weekend's series vs. California (then-No. 12) was the Longhorns' first of the season against a ranked opponent…Texas' non-conference schedule includes matchups against No. 3 Texas A&M, California and No. 19 UCLA, as ranked in D1Baseball.com's most recent poll.
NEXT UP—The Longhorns are scheduled to play a three-game series at No. 19 UCLA from Friday through Sunday in Los Angeles…it will be Texas' first road series of the season…UCLA is 6-5 on the season, but won its previous three games at the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic against Southern California, Oklahoma and Mississippi State.

HITTING…THE BOOKS—Sophomore INF/OF Jake McKenzie earned the distinction of Engineering Scholar from the Cockrell School of Engineering, which recognizes his academic excellence, strength of character and promise of continued success in engineering.
HITTING…THE BALL—Since missing the first series of the season, second baseman Joe Baker has gone 10-for-34 in nine games this season…sophomore Travis Jones is batting .450 (9-for-20) this season, tops on the team.
SPECS—Since donning glasses during games, first baseman Kacy Clemens has hit .313 (5-for-16) with 2 home runs…had hit just one home run in his career prior to this season.
KEEP ON DEALING—Senior lefthander Ty Culbreth, who was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week last Monday for his effort against Stanford, added his second quality start of the season on Saturday vs. California…he threw 8 innings and allowed 3 runs while striking out 6 in the game…Culbreth ranks second in the Big 12 in strikeouts (22) and innings pitched (21).
MILESTONE TRACKER — With his win on February 20 vs. UNLV, Garrido reached 800 career victories as head coach of the Longhorns…he is 45 wins away from 2,000 in his collegiate career.
HALL OF FAMER—On January 8, Garrido was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Fame…his induction gave the Longhorns program four ABCA Hall of Famers, as he joined Billy Disch (inducted in 1966), Bibb Falk (1968) and Cliff Gustafson (1992).
HAPPY AT HOME —The Longhorns have played 11of its 12 games this season at home and have just four road games scheduled in their next 13 games…overall this season, Texas plays just 18 of its 52 games away from UFCU Disch-Falk Field…among those 18 games is an April 12 contest against the University of Houston at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas, though the Longhorns will be considered the home team in that matchup.
