04.01.2016 | Baseball
Oklahoma hit three home runs off Texas starter Morgan Cooper en route to the series-opening win.
NORMAN, Okla.—A trio of Oklahoma homers sent Texas Baseball to a 6-1 Friday night loss at the hands of the Sooners. The loss drops the Longhorns to 11-15, 2-2 in Big 12 action, while the Sooners move to 13-13-1, 1-3 in conference play.
Oklahoma got on the board in the first when, after a single and a walk, first baseman Jack Flansberg hit a long homer to right to put the Longhorns in a 3-0 hole.
Texas got one back in the third when Tres Barrera doubled home Kody Clemens from first base, but the Sooners answered right back in the fourth with an Austin O'Brien solo homer and a two-run shot off the bat of Domenic DeRenzo that made it 6-1.
The Longhorns were unable to close the five-run gap, sending Cooper (1-1) to his first loss of the season. Eric Dunbar came on in the sixth for the remaining three innings of work and did not allow a hit while allowing one walk and picking up one strikeout.
Kody Clemens, Kacy Clemens and Tres Barrera accounted for the only Longhorn hits on the night, with each picking up two apiece.
Texas and Oklahoma resume play tomorrow with a 3 p.m. game at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Senior Ty Culbreth is scheduled to take the hill.
