Selected in the 29th round by the Kansas City Royals in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft…named the inaugural recipient of the James and Huston Street Longhorn Award, given to the player who most embodies what it means to be a Longhorn through leadership, selflessness, and integrity both on and off the field.
AS A JUNIOR (2017)
Earned first team Academic All-Big 12 honors…appeared in all 63 games (61 starts) for the Longhorns on the year…hit .253/.393/.401 on the season…led the team with 18 doubles and hit 4 home runs to go along with 32 RBI…swiped a team-high 14 bases on the year…on June 3 at LBSU in the NCAA Regional, went 2-for-6 with a 2-RBI single in the 12th that would prove to be the game-winner…on June 2 vs. UCLA in the opening game of the regional, went 1-for-3 with an RBI double to put the Longhorns out in front…on April 15 vs. Baylor, went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and 2 runs scored…he walked in the 10th inning with two outs in the frame to set up Kacy Clemens’ game-winning home run…from April 8 to April 22, went 15-for-32 (.469) to raise his average over .300 for the first time on the season…went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI on March 26 vs. K-State…on March 21 vs. Texas State, went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI, a double, a home run and 4 runs scored…his first home run of the season came on Feb 22 at Sam Houston State.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2016)
Earned Academic All-Big 12 Baseball first team honors … led off in 33 games for the Longhorns … started 28 games in left field, one in right field and 18 at designated hitter … finished second on the team with a .300 batting average and a .395 on-base percentage in 50 games (49 starts) … was hit by a pitch a team-high seven times … also finished 7-for-10 in stolen base attempts … finished with a .455 on-base percentage when leading off the ballgame … went 4-for-10 in the three-game series against Baylor (May 19-21) … hit his second triple of the year in a 2-for-4 effort on May 7 at West Virginia… reached base safely three times with two singles and a walk on May 3 vs. Prairie View A&M … reached base safely in 11 straight games (April 12-30), going 15-for-40 (.375) with eight walks in that span … went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in the opener of a three-game series against Oklahoma State on April 30 … had a hit and a run scored in every game of a weekend series against Texas Tech (April 22-24) going 4-for-13 (.308) with his fourth double of the season … went 5-for-8 (.625) in the series vs. Kansas (April 15-16) and hit his third home run of the year in the series finale on April 16 … scored five runs and recorded five RBI in that series with the Jayhawks … hit his second home run of the season against Kansas State (April 9) as part of a 2-for-3 day in which he crossed the plate three times … the home run was the second of the Longhorns only back-to-back jacks this season … reached base in his first 19 games of the season … scored two runs in three plate appearances in the Longhorns' 11-2 victory over UTSA on March 22 … registered at least one hit in each of the team's three games vs. Tulane (March 18-20), including a 2-for-4 day with a double and stolen base in the opening game of the series … batted .412 (14-for-34) in his first 10 games of the season … hit his first career home run in the second game of a three-game series at UCLA (Mar. 12) … the home run tied the ballgame … stole his first career base on March 1 at Texas State … went 4-for-8 (.500) in the four-game series vs. Stanford (February 25-28), hitting his first career triple in the series finale and finishing the series with two RBI and two runs scored … went 2-for-4 in his first appearance of the season on February 21 vs. UNLV and drove in a run with a single in the second inning.
AS A FRESHMAN (2015)
Made a start at first base in the opening game of the Big 12 Tournament May 20 against Texas Tech … had his first two collegiate hits against Oklahoma State on April 3 … made his collegiate debut against Rice on February 13, scoring a run in the contest.
HIGH SCHOOL
Lettered for four years as a shortstop under coach Eric Matthews at Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas … ranked 128th overall and 21st at shortstop by Perfect Game … named second team all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association as a senior in 2014 … also named all-area offensive player of the year as a senior … 2013 Perfect Game Second Team All-American … member of the 2013 Texas Rangers Area Code Team … 2012 All-District Second Team shortstop … career .384 hitter … helped lead team to state semifinals his senior season … also lettered three years as a receiver on the football team.
