Texas State slips by Baseball in final midweek matchup

The Longhorns dropped the Tuesday night game by a 3-2 final.
AUSTIN, Texas—The Texas Baseball team dropped its final midweek matchup of the season, falling 3-2 to visiting Texas State on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The loss snaps the Longhorns' 24-game winning streak over the Bobcats, but Texas took the overall season series, two games to one.
After falling behind 1-0 on a leadoff home run, the Longhorns rallied back with a two-run second to take the lead.
Kacy Clemens opened that frame with a walk and moved to second with one out. Patrick Mathis then worked a 10-pitch walk and Michael Cantu followed with another free pass to load the bases for freshman Tyler Rand.
Rand came through for the Longhorns, taking a 3-2 pitch over the right fielder's head to put the Longhorns on top 2-1.
That lead would hold through six innings, but Texas State answered in the top half of the seventh with an unearned run.
Nolan Kingham started the frame on the hill for Texas and, after allowing a one-out single, threw away a pick off attempt to give the Bobcats a runner on second. After a wild pitch, TSU third baseman Mickey Scott drove the 1-0 delivery from Parker Joe Robinson up the middle to tie the ballgame at 2-2.
An inning later, Texas was once again hurt by a pair of defensive miscues. After an infield single gave the Bobcats one on with one out, Chase Shugart's pickoff attempt went awry to put a runner in scoring position. Tanner Hill followed with a single to right that was misplayed by Mathis, allowing the Bobcats' go-ahead run to cross the plate.
The Longhorns were retired in order in the eighth and ninth to close out the ballgame and give Texas State the win.
Texas returns to action for its final regular season games on Thursday in the first of three against Baylor at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
