A three-run Baylor seventh sent the Longhorns to their eighth-straight Big 12 loss.
AUSTIN, Texas—Despite leading after six frames, Texas Baseball dropped its Friday night contest to Baylor by a 3-1 final. The Longhorns and Bears will finish out the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the final game of the 2016 regular season.
The Longhorns offense plated the first run of the ballgame in the third. Freshman Tyler Rand reached on an error by the pitcher before Joe Baker reached on a full-count walk and, after a fielder's choice and a pop up brought the Longhorns down to their final out in the inning, Kacy Clemens came through for Texas. The junior ripped a single through the right side to score Baker and put the Longhorns out to a 1-0 lead.
The teams exchanged zeroes over the next three frames but the Bears rallied in the top of the seventh. With Eric Dunbar on the hill, Baylor added a pair of singles to put runners on the corners with two outs before catcher Matt Menard drove a double down the right field line to put the Bears on top 2-1.
Following the double, Travis Duke entered in relief and allowed a single to left that scored the Bears' third run of the ballgame.
Trailing 3-1, the Longhorns could not muster the comeback they needed to overtake Baylor.
The loss is Texas' eighth in a row in Big 12 Conference play. The Longhorns will look to salvage the series with Saturday's regular season finale at 2 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Before the game, Texas seniors Ty Culbreth, Duke and James Barton will be recognized.
