Austin Todd drove in the game-winning runs with a 10th-inning double.
LAFAYETTE, La. – Austin Todd hit a two-run double in the top of the 10th inning as No. 24 Texas Baseball won in exciting fashion over Louisiana on Opening Day at M.L. 'Tigue' Moore Field at Russo Park. Todd finished the game 3-for-4 with the game-winning two-run double.
Bryce Elder was dominant on the mound, pitching eight innings with nine strikeouts. The sophomore starting pitcher allowed just one run on four hits and no walks. After allowing a one-out infield single in the fifth, Elder retired the next 11-consecutive batters.
Texas grabbed the first lead of the night in the seventh inning on a two-out RBI double by Michael McCann. DJ Petrinsky and Ryan Reynolds both singled ahead of McCann.
The Ragin' Cajuns tied the game up 1-1 in the ninth inning. Elder allowed a single to start the ninth before Kamron Fields was called on out of the bullpen. A single, a hit batter and a fielder's choice drove in the game-tying run.
Lefthander Brandon Ivey got the final out of the ninth inning and picked up his first career win.
After Todd's go-ahead double in the top of the 10th, Mason Bryant pitched a scoreless bottom half with three strikeouts to record the first save of his career.
Ryan Reynolds had a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-4. Duke Ellis, Bryce Reagan, Petrinsky and McCann each had a hit.
