AS A SOPHOMORE (2019)
Named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team and the Big 12 All-Academic first team...played in 28 games with 12 starts at first base (11) and designated hitter (1)...finished with a .250 batting average with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and seven runs scored...had a career-high three hits and scored two runs at Kansas on May 5…had a 2-for-4 game with a double, a run scored and one RBI versus Kansas State on April 13… went 1-for-3 with a run scored against Xavier on March 30…had a hit and drove in a run against Texas Southern on March 12…had his first hit of the season when he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs against Purdue on Feb. 23.
AS A FRESHMAN (2018)
Appeared in 11 games with three starts on the year for the Longhorns…walked three times and scored a run…made his first career start at first base on March 3 in game one vs. Northwestern…drew his first career walk in the game…pinch-hit and remained in the game as designated hitter on opening night vs. Louisiana…named to the Fall and Spring Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Rolls.
HIGH SCHOOL
Went to Midland High School and played under head coach Barry Russell…lettered in three seasons and played both first and third base…hit .330 as a senior and .350 as a junior…as a junior, named All-State third team…also played football during his junior season at Midland.
PERSONAL
Was his senior class Valedictorian and earned National Merit commendation…parents are Karen and Dan Bertelson…has five siblings, Sarah, Bri, Ben, John David, and Hannah…father was an offensive lineman at the University of Wyoming and played with the Dallas Cowboys in 1983…brother, Ben, was a pitcher at the United States Air Force Academy from 2009-13…sister, Hannah, is on the track and field team at Wyoming.
