AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma got out to an early lead and held on for a 4-2 win over Texas Baseball Thursday in the series opener at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (26-26, 6-15 Big 12) will try to rebound with a doubleheader on Friday with the games scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Oklahoma got the scoring started with an unearned run in the top of the first inning. A one out error at shortstop was immediately followed by an RBI double to right-center.

The Sooners doubled the lead in the second inning after a leadoff walk came around to score on a bloop single.

Oklahoma added two more runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth inning. Two walks to start the inning both came around to score.

All four runs came off of Texas starter Bryce Elder, who pitched six innings and allowed just four hits. Three of the runs off of Elder were unearned.

The Longhorns cut into the Sooners' lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Texas came out swinging in the inning, with Eric Kennedy lining a single and Duke Ellis quickly following with a double. Austin Todd drove in the first run with an RBI groundout and Zach Zubia followed with an RBI single to right field.

That was all the offense Texas would create in the game as OU would hold on for the win.

Tristan Stevens pitched a scoreless inning of relief and Matteo Bocchi pitched two scoreless frames with four strikeouts.
