No. 2 Baseball cruises to 19-2 win over UIW

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Baseball hammered 17 hits and cruised to a 19-2 win over UIW on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (15-5) scored in each of the first five innings and 13 of their 19 runs were scored with two outs.
Murphy Stehly had a huge night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with six RBI and three runs scored. Skyler Messinger went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Mitchell Daly finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two RBI.
Pete Hansen pitched five innings and allowed two runs on four hits. He struck out six batters and recorded the win to improve to 4-0 this season.
UIW scored a run in the top of the first on an RBI groundout after a leadoff walk started the game.
The Longhorns answered quickly, as Stehly hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to give Texas a 3-1 lead. Ivan Melendez and Silas Ardoin both walked with two outs before Stehly's homer.
Texas added another run in the second on back-to-back doubles by Trey Faltine and Daly to extend the lead to 4-1.
Two more Longhorns runs crossed the plate in the third inning, giving Texas a 6-1 lead. Stehly singled and stole second base before scoring on an RBI double by Messinger. After Faltine singled to put runners on the corners, an errant throw allowed another run to score.
The Texas scoring barrage continued in the fourth inning, with two more runs crossing the plate. Stehly continued his big day, with a two-run RBI single to make the score 8-1.
The Cardinals got a run back in the fifth inning with two doubles off of Hansen. A pair of strikeouts ended the inning with the 8-2 lead intact.
Texas turned it into a lop-sided affair in the fifth inning with nine two-out runs to extend the lead to 17-2. The Longhorns sent 12 men to the plate and pounded out six hits in the inning. Ardoin and Stehly each hit RBI singles, Messinger hit a two-run double and Daly lined a two-run single. Douglas Hodo III capped off the inning with a three-run homer to left-center field.
Eric Kennedy finished off the scoring with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.
