No. 10 Baseball drops series opener to No. 8 Oklahoma State

The Longhorns will look to even the series with the Cowboys on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 8 Oklahoma State scored two runs in the ninth to beat No. 10 Texas Baseball, 8-6, on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns (31-14, 9-7) had six runs on 12 hits, with three home runs.
Skyler Messinger hit two homers in the game and finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Ivan Melendez was 4-for-5 with a solo home run, and Murphy Stehly went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Pete Hansen started for the Longhorns, pitching seven innings but allowing six runs on nine hits. Hansen struck out four batters and did not factor in the decision.
Oklahoma State scored the first run of the game with a solo home run in the second inning. Melendez answered with a solo homer of his own to tie the game in the fourth.
OSU scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, including a two-run home run. But Texas answered right back with three runs of their own to knot the game back up 4-4.
Skyler Messinger started the half inning with his first homer of the game. Dylan Campbell then doubled, advanced and scored on an RBI groundout by Trey Faltine. Douglas Hodo III doubled to left center, advanced on a single, and scored on a single by Melendez.
Two more solo home runs were hit by OSU to put the Cowboys back into a 6-4 lead in the sixth inning.
Texas cut into the Cowboy lead with an RBI single by Stehly in the seventh. Messenger hit his second homer of the day tying the ball game again, 6-6.
Messinger's home run was the 81st hit by the Longhorns this season, tying Texas's school record for homers in a season set in 2010.
OSU had the last two runs of the night with a two RBI double in the ninth, bringing the final score to 8-6
Relief pitcher Aaron Nixon threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Lebarron Johnson Jr. recorded the final out of the ninth.
Texas will face OSU in the second game of the series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
