AUSTIN, Texas – No. 7 Baseball shut out No. 23 TCU, 2-0, behind a complete game shutout from Pete Hansen on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns (23-9, 4-3) needed just two runs on four hits with Hansen's gem on the mound.
Hansen was stellar from start to finish in his first career complete game. He set the tone early, striking out the side in the top of the first. He would go on to strike out 12 batters for the second-consecutive start, one shy of his career high.
He allowed his first baserunner in the third inning on a two-out single and only faced a small jam in the sixth with a walk and a single. Those were the only three baserunners that TCU would have in the game.
Trey Faltine went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and one run scored. Silas Ardoin went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI, while Mitchell Daly went 1-for-3 with the other RBI.
The Longhorns got on the board in the fourth inning when Douglas Hodo III walked, advanced to third on a single by Murphy Stehly, and then was driven in on an RBI groundout by Ardoin.
Faltine made it all happen for the Longhorns second run of the game in the seventh inning. He doubled to start the inning, stole second base and scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Daly.
Texas and TCU will square off in Game 2 of the series on Saturday at 5 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
