Preseason Individual Honors: A quartet of Longhorns were named to Golf Channel's preseason All-America teams, including Christiaan Maas (first team), Tommy Morrison (first team), Daniel Bennett (second team) and Luke Potter (honorable mention). Three Texas players were named to Golfweek's preseason All-America teams, including Christiaan Maas (first team), Tommy Morrison (first team) and Daniel Bennett (second team). In addition, a trio of Longhorns were named to the Fred Haskins Award Preseason Watch List, including Daniel Bennett, Christiaan Maas and Tommy Morrison. Texas and Oklahoma State are the only two schools to have three representatives named to the 25-player Haskins Award preseason watch list.
Trio in Top 10 of PGA TOUR University Class of 2026: Three Texas seniors are in the top 10 of the latest PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 rankings (Oct. 15). Christiaan Maas is tabbed at No. 2 and followed by Tommy Morrison at No. 6 and Luke Potter at No. 8. Texas is the ONLY school to have multiple players in the top 10 of the PGA TOUR University rankings. Introduced in 2020, PGA TOUR University identifies the best players in collegiate golf and provides membership opportunities on PGA TOUR-affiliated tours. In partnership with the World Amateur Golf Ranking, PGA TOUR U ranks players based on the last two years of their collegiate careers. The ranking period for the Class of 2026 began in Week 23 of 2024 and concludes on June 1, 2026, following the final round of stroke play at the 2026 NCAA Championship. The No. 1 player in the final PGA TOUR University Ranking next June will earn PGA TOUR membership. Players ranked No. 2-10 will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for 2026, and players ranked No. 11-25 will earn exempt membership for PGA TOUR Americas Segment II in 2026.
Morrison Shines at Walker Cup: Tommy Morrison did not participate in the team's opener at the Sahalee Players Championship, but he had a very good excuse. He was one of 10 players who competed for the 2025 USA Walker Cup Team on Sept. 6-7 at Cypress Point Club (Pebble Beach, Calif.) in the 50th Walker Cup Match. Morrison posted a 2-1 record at the 2025 Walker Cup and helped the Americans claim a 17-9 victory over Great Britain & Ireland. In Sunday morning's foursomes action, he paired with Auburn's Jackson Koivun and rallied for a 1-up victory over Connor Graham and Tyler Weaver. In Sunday afternoon's singles play, Morrison earned another full point for Team USA with a 3 & 2 win against Niall Shiels Donegan. Morrison is the 12th player in Texas program history to compete for Team USA in the prestigious event. Previous Longhorns to play in the Walker Cup include: Ed White (1936), Tom Kite (1971), Justin Leonard (1993), Brad Elder (1997), David Gossett (1999), Jordan Spieth (2011), Beau Hossler (2015), Doug Ghim (2017), Scottie Scheffler (2017), Cole Hammer (2019 and 2021) and Pierceson Coody (2021).
Trio Impresses at World Amateur Team Champs: Christiaan Maas won the individual title by 10 strokes and paired with Daniel Bennett to pace Team South Africa to the team crown at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (Oct. 8-11) at the Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore. All three current Longhorns who participated in the prestigious tournament placed in the top 10 of the final individual standings, as Eduardo Derbez Torres (Mexico) tied for sixth and Bennett tied for eighth. South Africa completed the tourney with a 72-hole score of 29-under 547 to claim an eight-shot victory over runner-up Australia at 21-under 555. England placed third at 19-under 557, and Mexico earned a fourth-place team finish at 17-under 559. This marked the first team championship for South Africa in tournament history, as its previous best finish was a silver medal in 1980. Mexico registered its first top-five finish at the event since earning silver in 2012, its only medalist performance in the championship. Maas became the first individual from South Africa and first from the African continent to win the Eisenhower Trophy with a four-round score of 22-under 266 (66-66-65-69), 10 shots in front of runner-up Declan O'Conovan (Australia) at 12-under 276. Maas' score of 266 tied the second-lowest individual mark in championship history, matching the score of Victor Perez (France), Lucas Herbert (Australia) and Alejandro Tosti (Argentina) in 2014 in Japan. Spain's Jon Rahm set the low 72-hole total in championship history in 2014 with a mark of 263. Derbez Torres tied for sixth with a four-round total of 8-under 280 (69-78-64-69), while Bennett tied for eighth in the 108-player field at 7-under 281 (73-69-67-72).
Runner-up Finish at Sahalee in Opener: Despite playing without Tommy Morrison in the lineup, Texas registered a runner-up team finish at the Sahalee Players Championship on Sept. 6-7 at Sahalee Country Club (Sammamish, Wash.). No. 12 Arizona State earned the team victory with a three-round score of 3-over 867 (295-277-295) to finish just one stroke in front of Texas. The Longhorns posted a 54-hole total of 4-over 868 (288-288-292) to take second, while UCLA placed third at 9-over 873. The 12-team field featured six squads in the top 20 of the Golf Channel Preseason Top 30. Daniel Bennett tied for second in the individual standings at 2-under 214 (72-69-73), just one stroke behind Pepperdine's Brady Siravo at 3-under 213. Christiaan Maas tied for sixth at even-par 216 (72-72-72).
Horns Share Team Title at Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational: Texas claimed a four-way share of the team championship at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab on Sept. 29-30 at historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth. Christiaan Maas posted a 54-hole total of 1-under 209 (70-71-68) to advance to a five-man playoff for the individual title before sharing runner-up honors. The Longhorns, who entered the final round in a tie for fifth and nine strokes off the lead, registered a 54-hole score of 10-over 850 (285-283-282) and were declared co-champions with No. 14 North Carolina, No. 6 Vanderbilt and No. 8 Virginia. The prestigious 15-team field featured 13 squads in the top 25 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Sept. 19). This marked the first time that the Longhorns have won the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational since the tourney began in 2014. Maas was one of five players who completed the tourney at 1-under 209. On the first playoff hole (hole 18), Georgia Tech's Albert Hansson sank an eight-foot birdie putt to win the playoff. Tommy Morrison tied for eighth with a three-round total of 1-over 211 (72-68-71).
