Earned CoSIDA Academic All-America first team honors following the 2018 season…also named the 2018 Spike Owen Defensive Player of the Year and the 2018 Sean Braswell Academic MVP by head coach David Pierce and staff…named the inaugural Sean Braswell Academic MVP following the 2017 season.
AS A SENIOR (2018)
Finished the year with a .252/.311/.341 line to go along with nine doubles and 14 RBI in 53 games (44 starts)…made just one error on the year in 433 chances, becoming a stalwart at first base…led the team with 14 sac bunts…also made three appearances on the mound, allowing one earned run in 2.2 innings of work…went 3-for-9 with a double and a run scored in the College World Series…in Texas' eight NCAA Tournament games, hit .375/.382/.500 with four doubles…collected a season-high three hits, including two doubles, on June 9 vs. Tennessee Tech in the Super Regional…was named to the Austin Regional All-Tournament team after going 5-for-12…finished with five multi-hit games in his last nine career games…in 15 games from May 6 at Texas Tech through June 19 vs Florida, raised his average 60 points from .192 to .252…on April 17 vs. UTRGV, played all nine positions in the Longhorns' seven-inning win, becoming the first Longhorn to complete that feat…he began the came at catcher, the only position he had not previously played at Texas, before moving from first to second to third to short, playing all three outfield spots in the sixth, and taking the mound in the seventh to record the final two outs…became the Longhorns starting first baseman near the start of Big 12 play…drove in a season-high three runs on March 30 at K-State…collected his first hit of the season on March 3 vs. Northwestern, an RBI double…named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team and the Fall and Spring Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll…awarded the Marvin Wright Student Athlete Award from the Cockrell School of Engineering and the 2018 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award from the Big 12.
AS A JUNIOR (2017)
Earned Academic All-Big 12 Baseball first team honors…made 10 relief appearances and played in 10 games in the field with 4 starts…pitched and played first, second, third and DH over the course of the season…had a pinch-hit RBI double on May 25 vs. Kansas in the Big 12 Baseball Championship tournament…on the mound, went 1-1 with one save while pitching to a 3.24 ERA in 16.2 innings out of the bullpen…struck out 11 and walked just 4 on the year…tossed a shutout inning on May 28 vs. Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship game…allowed just one hit while striking out 4 on April 25 vs. Louisiana in Sugar Land…allowed one hit in 2.1 innings of relief on March 12 vs. UCLA and picked up his first career save in the game…threw a career-high 4.2 innings on Feb 26 vs. UCONN…allowed just one hit and struck out 4 in the game.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2016)
Named an engineering scholar by the Cockrell School of Engineering…earned Academic All-Big 12 Baseball first team honors … started 18 of the Longhorns’ final 19 games at second base …started every game of the Big 12 Tournament and raised his batting average 32 points in those five games, from .205 to .237 … hit .368 (7-for-19) with a double, five RBI and two runs scored in the tournament … collected his second extra-base hit of the season on May 19 vs. Baylor and went 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored … took the mound for the second time on May 7 at West Virginia, retiring both batters he faced… made his first pitching appearance of the season on April 22 at Texas Tech, retiring two batters on a groundout and a strikeout … started two games in the team's three-game series at UCLA, scoring two runs and registering a hit in seven plate appearances … went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in the team's 10-4 win on March 1 at Texas State … on February 27 vs. Stanford, went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI in the team's 9-0 win … registered an RBI single in his first appearance of the season on February 19 vs. UNLV.
AS A FRESHMAN (2015)
Held a 0.50 ERA over 18 innings … started at third base in the opening game of the Big 12 Tournament … played right field and third base in the doubleheader for his first action in the field since Rice (Feb. 15) at Baylor on May 17 … collected his first collegiate hits and RBIs by going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, delivering bases loaded singles in the first and fifth innings to propel Texas to an 11-1 victory over Baylor on May 17 … finished the Baylor series 3-for-6 with the four RBIs, two walks (.625 OBP) and a run … threw 2 1/3 scoreless frames in the Texas Tech series (May 2 & 3) with one hit allowed and one strikeout … won his second game of the season on April 28 when he pitched two scoreless innings of relief vs. Prairie View A&M … entered up a run with the bases loaded and no outs and forced a 4-6-3 double play and fly out to center to limit the damage against the Panthers … grabbed his first career win on April 7 vs. Wichita State by tossing a scoreless inning of relief with a walk and a strikeout … tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 frames against Texas State on March 24, allowing just one hit and striking out one … threw 1 2/3 scoreless frames vs. UT Arlington on March 17, striking out two and allowing just one hit and one hit batsman in his outing … tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings against Incarnate Word (March 10), striking out two and walking two in the outing … threw a scoreless inning against UTPA on February 25 … spun 1 1/3 perfect frames against UTSA on February 17 while striking out two Roadrunners … made his first collegiate start on February 15 against Rice, playing third base and drawing a walk and scoring a run in the contest … had his first college appearance as a pitcher on February 14 (game two) when he tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts against Rice.
HIGH SCHOOL
Lettered four seasons at W.T White High School in Dallas, Texas, for coach David Shepard … posted a career 19-9 record with a 1.99 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 176 innings pitched … hit .332 with six home runs and 92 runs scored in his career … lists his best game as a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts against Richardson High School his senior season, when the only base runner reached on an error … named District 9-5A Pitcher of the Year and second team all-area his senior season … Offensive Player of the Year and second team all-area as a junior … was a first team all-district pitcher as a sophomore and Freshman of the Year his first varsity season … member of the National Honor Society and graduated Summa Cum Laude, ranked third in his high school class … Academic All-State Baseball Team his senior year.

Son of Jody and Amy McKenzie … both of his parents are graduates of UT … has three brothers, David, Ben and Josh … majoring in petroleum engineering and was named an Engineering Scholar by the Cockrell School of Engineering.
