AS A SENIOR (2017)
Earned second team Academic All-Big 12 honors…was limited to 40 games (33 starts) on the season due to a hamstring injury…finished tied for a team-high .305 batting average despite just 131 at-bats…made just one error on the year…in the second half of the season, played in 27 games and hit .355 (33-for-93) with two doubles, two homers and 11 RBI…hit .349 (15-for-43) in Big 12 Conference action and .448 over his final 15 games in the Texas uniform…eight of his final 15 games were multi-hit efforts…raised his batting average 113 points from May 2 to the end of the season…recorded two hits in each of his final three games in the NCAA Long Beach Regional at Long Beach State…on his senior day on May 21 vs. West Virginia, went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, 2 doubles and 2 runs scored…on May 5 at TCU, went 5-for-6 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored…recorded his first multi-hit game and first homer of the season on March 2 at Stanford.
AS A JUNIOR (2016)
Earned 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball honors … was one of two Longhorns to start every game for Texas … most of his starts game in center field (39) but made 18 straight starts at second base from March 22 to April 22 … finished on a tear through the final two months of the season … in 30 games from April 3 at Oklahoma through the Longhorns’ final game, batted .333/.411/.565 with 21 runs, eight doubles, one triple and five homers … his five home runs and 28 RBI in that span were tops on the team … prior to that stretch, hit just .255/286/.330 with no homers and just eight RBI …made just one error on the season, but it did not come while he was in the outfield … tied his career-high in hits (4) and stolen bases (2) in the regular season finale on May 21 vs. Baylor … reached base in all five of his plate appearances in that game, going 4-for-4 with a walk … went yard twice in the series against West Virginia (May 6-8) … walked four times in that Mountaineers series and tied a career-high on May 7 by drawing three … went 11-for-28 (.393) during a seven-game hitting streak (April 15-26), accruing 11 total RBI in those games … hit his third homer of the season on April 24 at Texas Tech … drove in six runs on five hits and scored three times over the three games at Texas Tech (April 22-24) … went 3-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI on April 15 vs. Kansas, his second homer of the season … went 7-for-12 in a three-game series at Kansas State (April 8-10), hitting a double, a triple and his first homer of the year…hit a bases-loaded, two-out triple on April 9 at Kasnsas State, giving him a career-best 4 RBI … made his first career start at second base on March 22 vs. UTSA, the first of 18 straight starts at second … hit two doubles with an RBI on the way to helping the Longhorns win the first of a three-game series at UCLA (March 11) … hit 3-for-5 against Sam Houston State (March 8) while batting in a run and crossing home plate twice … reached base safely in five of his six plate appearances against Texas State (March 1) … matched his career high in hits (4) in that game against the Bobcats while adding a walk and two RBIs … went 5-for-14 (.357) and added the fifth triple of his career in a three-game series against UNLV (Feb. 19-21).
AS A SOPHOMORE (2015)
Named Most Outstanding Player of the Big 12 Tournament after going 8-for-13 at the plate while also playing excellent defense in center field … the sophomore finished the four games with three runs scored, three RBIs, two walks, a double and a stolen base; had multiple hits in three of the four games (May 20-24) … tied for second on the team with three triples, is third with 32 runs scored, is fourth on the squad with 27 walks and fifth with a .395 slugging percentage … ended the year on a 14 game reached base streak … against Baylor, went 4-for-6 (.667) with three runs scored, two RBIs and hit his fourth home run of the season (May 16 & 17) … was 3-for-4 with three runs scored including a two-run home run against Baylor on May 17 … hit .300 (3-for-10) with a double, an RBI, two walks and a hit by pitch against Texas Tech May 1-3 … launched his third homer of the year April 21 vs. Texas State in a two hit effort … was 6-for-16 (.375) with a double, triple, four runs scored, four RBIs and four walks at Kansas (April 17-19) … had a hit and a sacrifice fly against Nebraska on March 27 … crushed a triple and an inside-the-park home run off-the-wall in center field and scored twice against Texas State on March 24 … had a hit, an RBI and a run scored vs. Kansas State on March 21 (game two) … went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk vs. UT Arlington (March 17) … had a 1-for-2 game with a walk and two runs scored vs. West Virginia on March 15 … was 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI vs. Incarnate Word (March 10) … blasted his first home run of the season in a 1-for-3, two RBI and two walk effort against Stanford on March 8 … hit a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning against UTPA on February 25 … had an RBI triple and scored a run vs. Minnesota February 22 … Had a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored against Minnesota February 21 (game one) … had two hits against Rice on February 15 … named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2014 fall semester.
AS A FRESHMAN (2014)
A member of the Big 12 All-Freshman team … played in 61 games with 59 starts (48 at third base, 5 in left field, six in right field) … finished third on the team with a .284 batting average … recorded 10 doubles, a triple and two home runs … went 9-for-9 on stolen bases … went 6-for-18 in the College World Series with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs over five games … went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored against Vanderbilt on June 20 … was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored against Louisville on June 16 … went 6-for-13 in the Big 12 Tournament (May 21-24) with a double, two steals, three runs scored, three walks and one RBI … went 3-for-4 with a double, a steal and two runs scored against Texas Tech on May 21 … hit a three-run home run against Kansas State May 18 for his second long ball of the year … against Oklahoma State on April 25, went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored … went 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base against UTPA on April 22 … had two hits, three runs scored and a stolen base against UT Arlington on April 15 … was 5-for-12 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs in the series against Oklahoma (April 11-13) … went 2-for-3 with a run scored against Baylor on April 6 … achieved his first career four-hit game while stealing two bases and scoring a run against Texas Tech on March 29 … had a 2-for-2 day at the plate against Texas State March 25 with a double and a walk … was 2-for-5 with two doubles, a stolen base, two RBIs and a run scored in the final game of the series against Columbia March 22 … Had two hits, an RBI and a run scored on March 18 against Dallas Baptist … was 2-for-4 with with three RBI and a run scored against Stanford on February 23 … went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI in the series finale against Cal February 16 … recorded his first collegiate hit and home run on the same swing in the game with Cal on February 16 … named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2013 fall semester and the 2014 spring semester.
HIGH SCHOOL
Played three seasons under coach Chad Marshall at Winston Churchill High School … recorded a .458 batting average with 49 runs, 24 RBIs and four home runs his senior season … was selected to the first team all-district, first team all-area and San Antonio Express News Super Team each of his sophomore, junior and senior seasons … also played quarterback for the football team his freshman year … was Academic All-District his sophomore and junior years.
PERSONAL
Parents are Greg and Jeanne Gurwitz … has two sisters, Hayley and Natalie … grandfather, Robert Gurwitz played football at Texas as a running back and defensive back … six total relatives have attended UT … majoring in applied learning and development with a minor in business.
