'15 TOURNAMENT—The Longhorns won their record fifth Big 12 Tournament title last season, going 4-0 in Tulsa…RHP Connor Mayes and RHP Parker French earned Co-Most Outstanding Pitcher honors while OF Zane Gurwitz earned the Most Outstanding Player nod…Joe Baker, Tres Barrera, Bret Boswell and Brooks Marlow were named to the All-Tournament Team… with the Big 12 Tournament win, the Longhorns made their 57th NCAA Regional appearance, the most ever in Division I, and 15th under HeadCoach Augie Garrido.
CORNERSTONES—Juniors Tres Barrera and Zane Gurwitz are the only two Longhorns to start every game for Texas…Barrera has made starts at catcher (26), third base (14), designated hitter (8), first base (3) and second base (1)…Gurwitz has started in centerfield (34) and at second base (18)…Kody Clemens has played in all 52, with 51 starts.
ZANE ON FIRE—Zane Gurwitz has been on a offensive tear for the Longhorns, going 4-for-4 in Saturday's regular season finale…in 23 games since April 8 at Kansas State, Gurwitz has hit .333 (27-for-81) with five homers and 25 RBI…his 22 RBI in Big 12 Conference games is good for second in the league…had just 8 RBI in his first 29 games…he hit two homers in the three-game series at West Virginia…he took over the team lead in RBI with 33 on the year…he also has just one error on the season while he was playing second base on April 5 vs. Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
BEAU THROWS—In his last 8 outings, freshman Beau Ridgeway has allowed just one unearned run over 17.2 innings pitched…in that span, he's given up just six hits and one walk while striking out 11…his only blemish in his last 14 outings came when he allowed 3 runs on April 15 game vs. Kansas…since April 15, he's lowered his ERA from 5.74 to 2.87 overall.
ANOTHER HALL HONOR—On March 31, the National College Baseball Hall of Fame (located in Lubbock) announced that Augie Garrido will be a part of the 2016 induction class as the winningest coach in collegiate baseball history…on January 8, he was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Fame, giving the Longhorns program four ABCA Hall of Famers, as he joined Billy Disch (inducted in 1966), Bibb Falk (1968) and Cliff Gustafson (1992)
CULBRETH—After registering quality starts in six of his first seven starts, senior LHP Ty Culbreth lasted a season-worst 4.1 IP on May 7 at WVU…he made a designated start on Friday vs. Baylor, tossing three scoreless innings and exiting with the lead…in his last 6 outings, he has allowed 22 runs (18 ER) in 33 innings of work…in his first six starts, allowed just 15 runs (12 ER) over 46.2 IP.
ALL-BIG 12—Culbreth was the only Longhorn named to the All-Big 12 first or second team…Culbreth picked up second team distinction while Tres Barrera, Kacy Clemens, Zane Gurwitz, Travis Jones and Patrick Mathis were given Honorable Mention.
HEAR 'EM—In partnership with IMG-College, Texas games will be broadcast on the Austin Radio Network, primarily on 104.9 The Horn…Augie Garrido also calls in weekly to the Bucky & Erin Show on the station.
