Baseball lands 15 on Academic All-Big 12 teams

Junior Zach Zubia receives Academic All-Big 12 recognition for third time.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball placed 15 student-athletes on the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 teams, including eight on the first team, the league office announced Wednesday.
Justin Eckhardt, Bryce Elder, Lance Ford, Peter Geib, Ty Madden, Caston Peter, Austin Todd and Zach Zubia were all named to the first team, while Donny Diaz, Duke Ellis, Eric Kennedy, Owen Meaney, DJ Petrinsky, Cole Quintanilla and Tristan Stevens were second team selections.
The 15 total Longhorns on the Academic All-Big 12 team are the most in program history, and the eight first team selections are the second-most after the 2015 team.
Zubia (communication and leadership) received Academic All-Big 12 recognition for the third-consecutive season and second-straight on the first team. Elder (corporate communication) and Stevens (corporate communication) were both honored last season as well.
In all, 125 student-athletes are featured on the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team with 82 first team members and 43 second team honorees.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
