No. 2 Baseball beats The Citadel, 18-4

The Longhorns pounded out a season-high 18 runs on 16 hits, including three homers.
CHARLESTON, S.C. – No. 2 Texas Baseball had an offensive explosion with an 18-4 win over The Citadel on Wednesday at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The Longhorns (14-5) closed out their seven-day road trip to the state of South Carolina with their season highs in runs and hits.
Every Texas starter had a hit, led by a 3-for-4 game with two RBI and three runs scored by Ivan Melendez. Skyler Messinger went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Silas Ardoin went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, four RBI and two runs scored.
The Citadel took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, hitting a two-out three-run home run out to left field.
The Longhorn bats woke up in the third inning, scoring six runs on six hits to take a 6-3 lead. Eric Kennedy walked to start the inning, Melendez singled and Ardoin was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Murphy Stehly drove in the first Texas runs with a two-RBI single through the left side of the infield. After a sacrifice bunt from Jack O'Dowd, Messinger delivered the go-ahead runs with a single up the middle. Trey Faltine capped off the inning with a two-run homer to left-center field.
Travis Sthele was outstanding out of the bullpen, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. He struck out eight of the 13 batters he faced in the outing and picked up his second win of the season.
The Citadel got a run back in the sixth inning on a solo homer to right field to trim the Texas lead to 6-4.
Texas put together another big inning, scoring five runs in the seventh to go up 11-4. Jack O'Dowd and Messinger both singled and were sacrificed to second by Faltine. Mitchell Daly drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single to left. After a balk, Kennedy drove in another run with an RBI single to right.
Melendez then capped off the inning with a two-run homer to right-center field, his eight homer of the season and the 21st of his career.
Seven more Longhorn runs crossed the plate in the ninth inning, with Ardoin providing a grand slam.
Jared Southard pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one run in relief, while Sam Walbridge pitched one scoreless inning. Coy Cobb tossed 0.2 innings and Zane Morehouse pitched the ninth inning to close out the win.
