A mainstay in the Texas starting rotation during each of the last three seasons who is arguably one of the top pitchers in the country… a power pitcher who is an intense competitor on the mound and an extremely hard worker.

2005 Season
• Started 16 of his 23 games while posting an 8-3 record and a 2.67 ERA that ranked 71st nationally, third on the team and seventh in the Big 12.
• Held opposing batters to a .235 average against as he registered 94 strikeouts over 108 innings of work.
• Owned two of Texas' six complete-game efforts.
• Earned two wins, recorded 40 strikeouts while walking only 12 over 43 innings and posted a 3.12 ERA that ranked among the top 15 league hurlers during Big 12 Conference action.
• Went 4-1 with a 2.91 ERA over five starts in postseason play, while tossing one complete game and striking out a club-high 25 over a team-best 34 innings of work.
2005 Highlights
• Made his first collegiate appearance at San Diego State (2/5) and tossed 2.1 shutout innings of relief while striking out six.
• Threw four scoreless innings over two relief appearances and allowed only four hits while striking out one opposite No. 5 Stanford (2/19-20).
• Earned his first career win opposite Purdue (3/12) by allowing one run and striking out three over 5.2 innings.
• Notched his second win of the season during a 6.1-inning performance at No. 4 Nebraska (4/9) in which he struck out a team season-best nine, scattered seven hits and surrendered only two earned runs.
• Named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, a Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger Player of the Week and the NCBWA Pro-Line Cap Pitcher of the Week on April 19 after throwing the 19th no-hitter in UT history, the third in Big 12 annals and the first for a Texas pitcher since Feb. 11, 2000, during the first complete game of his career versus Oklahoma (4/16). Notably, while only walking one and fanning six in that outing, he also became the first Longhorns freshman to toss a nine-inning, no-hitter since April 7, 1973, when Richard Wortham no-hit Texas Tech at Clark Field.
• Garnered Austin NCAA Regional All-Tourney Team honors after tossing his second complete-game effort and matching a then-career best by fanning nine during an elimination game versus Miami University (6/5).
• Tossed 6.2 frames and allowed only one run while striking out six at No. 8 Mississippi (6/12) during the Oxford NCAA Super Regional.
• Helped lead Texas to its sixth National Championship by going 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in two starts, which spanned a team-high 14 innings, during the 2005 College World Series. Also claimed the win during UT's first title game against No. 6 Florida (6/25) by working seven strong innings.
• Pitched for head coach Greg King's Hyannis Mets in the Cape Cod Baseball League during the summer and struck out 18 over 19.2 innings.

2004 season
• Redshirted.
• Pitched for head coach Bill Pintard's Santa Barbara Foresters during the summer of 2004 and went 4-0 on the mound with a 0.91 ERA to help the team collect 43 wins, win the California Coastal League title and earn a No. 4 national ranking by placing fourth at the National Baseball Congress (NBC) National Tournament.
• Appeared in 12 games for the Foresters while starting three and not only combined on two shutouts, but also fanned 37 while walking only 14 over 39.2 innings. Also limited opponents to a .148 batting average.
HIGH SCHOOL
• A four-year letter winner in both baseball (first base/shortstop/pitcher) and football (quarterback) at Sinton High School (1999-2003).
• Named the All-Bay Area Freshman as well as Newcomer of the Year in 2000 as a first-team All-State selection at first base after batting .468 with 27 runs scored, 34 RBI and 36 hits, including seven doubles, seven home runs and one triple. Also boasted a 12-1 record for head coach Gene Kaspryzk's Pirates after fanning 102 and posting a 0.79 ERA.
• Amassed a batting batting average to go along with an 8-0 record on the mound in 2001 en route to earning All Far Area as swell as honorable-mention All-State honors and District 30-3A Sophomore of the Year laurels. Also tallied a career-low 0.35 ERA and 94 strikeouts, while amassing 30 runs, 10 doubles, two home runs, and a pair of triples.
• Played a key role in helping the Pirates capture the 2002 3A State Championship with a 34-5 overall record by collecting state All-Tournament Team recognition, District 30-3A Player of the Year honors and All-State as well as All-Bay Area accolades as a pitcher.
• Went 17-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a career-high 150 strikeouts on the hill as a junior, while also batting a career-best .475, scoring 23 runs and driving in 24 RBI. Also tallied six home runs to go along with 13 doubles and one triple among his 28 hits.
• Led Sinton to a second-place state championship finish in 2003 after batting 430 and posting an unblemished 11-0 pitching record. Also scored 40 runs, registered 10 home runs, boasted a 0.90 ERA and fanned 120 on his way to earning All-State honors as a pitcher, state All-Tournament Team laurels and All-Bay Area Season MVP honors.
• Came through with a game-winning double in the 10th inning of Sinton's 2003 state semifinal game with Canyon High School after pitching nine full innings and striking out 11.
• Utilized at third base, in the outfield and as a pitcher with the Ohio Thunder during the summers of 2001 and 2002. Batted .380 with three home runs, 18 doubles and 33 RBI for the Thunder following his sophomore year in high school as he was named to the Baseball America/Perfect Game WWBA World Series All-Tournament Team.
• Quarterbacked the Pirates' football team under the direction of head coaches Brent Davis and Jimmy Mitchell over his four years while also captaining the squad twice.
• Earned District 30-3A MVP honors as a quarterback as both a junior and senior as he led Sinton to the state finals in 2002.
• Named all-state as a quarterback in 2002 and garnered Career MVP honors for the Bay Area following the 2003 campaign.
• Graduated in the top 10 percent of his class while also earning All-South Texas Academic as well as Government and BCIS Scholar awards.
• Member of the National Honor Society.
• Volunteered time with the Sinton for Youth Christmas Appeal, the MS Bike-A-Thon and Toys for Tots.

Born Adrian David Alaniz on March 12, 1984, in Corpus Christi, Texas... parents are Emi and Norma Alaniz... has two brothers, Emi III and Andres... his brother, Emi graduated from Texas State University in 2005 and played baseball for the Bobcats ... majoring in education.
