AS A SOPHOMORE (2019)
Named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team...made 17 appearances on the mound with three starts...finished with a 4.60 ERA and a 2-2 record in 29.1 innings pitched...struck out 22 batters to just 11 walks...had three-straight scoreless outings from April 20-27...pitched two scoreless innings of relief against Texas State on April 23, allowing only one base runner on a walk...tossed two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts at Incarnate Word on March 26…had a season high five strikeouts over 4.0 innings and received the win against Texas Southern on March 12…during his first win of the season against Purdue on Feb. 24 he allowed no earned runs and had three strikeouts in five innings pitched…first appearance of the season was at Louisiana on Feb. 17.
AS A FRESHMAN (2018)
Finished his freshman season with 11 appearances (one start) and a 4.37 ERA…allowed four runs over his final 17.2 innings of work spanning seven appearances…allowed just one hit and two walks over 3.0 innings on May 23 vs. Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament…on April 27 at West Virginia, entered in relief and threw 4.0 hitless innings, allowing just one walk while striking out seven to earn his first career win…made his first career start on April 2 vs. McNeese State and went 4.0 innings…went 3.0 innings on March 13 at Arkansas and struck out 7…made his collegiate debut on Feb 21 vs Lamar, throwing a perfect frame…named to the 2017 Fall Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
HIGH SCHOOL
Three-year letterman at James E. Taylor High School under head coach Matthew Glover…compiled a 1.30 ERA as a senior and a 1.70 ERA as a junior…as a senior, was a unanimous first-team All-District selection…as a junior, also earned first team All-District recognition…named Academic All State Elite, National Merit Finalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction.

Parents are Melanie and Mike Whelan…has one brother, Ben, who is a senior at UT.
