Baseball drops game one, 3-2, against Tulane on Saturday

After rain paused play in the third inning on Friday, Tulane took the series opener on Saturday.
AUSTIN, Texas—After Friday night's game vs. Tulane was suspended in the top of the third inning, the Longhorns and the Green Wave finished out the contest on Saturday afternoon. Although the Longhorns lead 2-1 after three, Tulane picked up a two-run homer in the seventh and took game one by a 3-2 final.
The game, which began Friday night with Kyle Johnston on the hill, was halted after two innings with the score tied at 1-1.
When it resumed on Saturday, scheduled Sunday starter Connor Mayes took the hill instead. The sophomore cruised through four innings, striking out six, before Tulane leftfielder Jarret DeHart took him deep to right on a windy day at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns got a pair of two-hit games from Travis Jones and Kacy Clemens while Tres Barrera and Patrick Mathis picked up an RBI each. The second Texas run was manufactured by smart base-running from Jones. The left fielder led off the third inning with what appeared to be a single until he stretched it to a two-bagger thanks to a lack of urgency from the Tulane outfield. A pair of groundouts then plated Jones and put the Longhorns ahead, 2-1—a lead that would last until the game-winning Green Wave homer in the seventh.
The two squads return to action at 4:45 p.m. for game two of the three-game set.
