After dropping game one, 3-2, the Longhorns rebounded for a series-tying win over the Green Wave.
AUSTIN, Texas—A 10-hit, 10-run effort boosted Texas Baseball to a pivotal 10-3 victory over visiting Tulane in game two of the three-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
After the Green Wave edged the Longhorns in game one, the Texas bats came alive behind starter Ty Culbreth in the second contest.
Down 3-0 to Tulane after the first, Kody Clemens and Kacy Clemens sparked the offense.
After the brothers hit back-to-back one-out singles, second baseman Joe Baker answered with a double down the left filed line to plate them both and pull Texas to within one.
Zane Gurwitz followed with a single up the middle to score Baker and the Longhorns had knotted the game at 3-apiece.
The following inning, Texas took hold of the lead for good.
Bret Boswell opened the third with a single before Patrick Mathis drew a walk. Tres Barrera dropped down a sac bunt to put the runners in scoring position and Kody Clemens followed with a full-count free pass.
With the bags full, Kacy Clemens ripped a 2-2 offering to left field to clear the bases and put the Longhorns up 6-3 on the Green Wave.
After a Michael Cantu walk, Baker hit into a fielder's choice and an error by the second baseman allowed Clemens to score to make it 7-3 Texas.
The teams swapped zeroes in the fourth and fifth but the Longhorns bats weren't finished. With Travis Jones and Boswell on base, Patrick Mathis singled to make it 8-3 and Kody Clemens followed with a two-run single to center to give the Longhorns the decisive 10-3 advantage.
Despite allowing three runs (two earned) in the opening frame, Culbreth (3-2) settled in to throw six innings for his fourth straight quality start. The lefthander struck out eight and walked two to earn his third win of the season.
Freshman Blake Wellmann entered in the seventh in relief of Culbreth and allowed a walk and a single in three innings of work to earn his first career save.
The Longhorns and Green Wave return to the field tomorrow at noon for the series rubber match. Kyle Johnston (1-1) returns to the hill tomorrow after throwing two innings on Friday night before the weather delay. Tulane will counter with right-hander Emerson Gibbs (1-1).
