The Longhorns had 20 student-athletes collect 26 All-America honors during the indoor season.
AUSTIN, Texas – Twenty Texas Track and Field student-athletes earned All-America honors from the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2021 indoor season this week. With this week's total, Texas has collected 81 All-America honors (1 Cross Country, 61 Indoor, 19 Outdoor) during Edrick Floréal's two-plus seasons as head coach. That tally does not include totals from the 2020 outdoor season that was canceled due to COVID-19, nor the 2021 outdoor season that has yet to be completed.
Texas' 20 All-America student-athletes were split evenly between the men's and women's programs, with 10 from each earning the nod from the USTFCCCA. Six student-athletes (2 men/4 women) earned multiple All-America honors during the Longhorns' indoor campaign.
On the men's side, sprinters Micaiah Harris and Jonathan Jones each received a pair of first-team accolades. Harris did so by finishing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.43, and by helping the Longhorns place eighth in the 4x400-meter relay. Jones was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team and a member of UT's distance medley relay team that placed third with a school-record time of 9:23.73.
The other members of those two relay teams – Cruz Gomez, Crayton Carrozza and Brendan Hebert (DMR), as well as Jon Maas and Willington Wright (4x400m) – each received All-America honors as well for their performances. Rounding out the Texas men's All-America honors were a trio of individual accolades for Yusuf Bizimana (First Team – Mile), Leo Neugebauer (Second Team – Heptathlon) and Tripp Piperi (Second Team – Shot Put).
The USTFCCCA announcement marked the first All-America at UT for Bizimana, Carrozza, Gomez, Hebert, Maas and Wright. Meanwhile, it was the second for Neugebauer, the fourth and fifth for both Harris and Jones, and sixth All-America accolade for Piperi.
On the women's side, a quartet of sprinters earned multiple All-America honors with their efforts during the indoor campaign. That group is made up by Kevona Davis, Kynnedy Flannel, Kennedy Simon and Stacey Ann Williams.
Davis, a freshman, and Flannel each earned their All-America nods in the 60 and 200-meter dashes, with Davis collecting second-team recognition in both, while Flannel was a second-team in the 60-meter dash and a first-team honoree in the 200-meter race. Simon and Williams each collected All-America honors in the 400-meter race and 4x400-meter relay. Simon was a first-team honoree in the 400-meter race, while Williams collected second-team recognition. Both were second-team honorees in the 4x400-meter relay. Rhasidat Adeleke and Davicia Patterson both also earned second-team recognition by competing on the relay team.
The Longhorns had four other women earn All-America honors this past weekend. Kristine Blazevica (Pentathlon), Chanel Brissett (60m Hurdles) and Tara Davis (Long Jump – National Champion) all collected first-team honors, while Emelia Chatfield (60m Hurdles) was a second-team honoree.
It was the first All-America honor as a Longhorn for Adeleke, Blazevica, Brissett, Chatfield, Kevona Davis, Tara Davis and Patterson. In addition, it was the third and fourth for Williams, fourth and fifth for Flannel, and the sixth and seventh for Simon at UT.
With 13 new additions to its All-America family (6 men/7 women) this week, the University of Texas has now helped develop 402 student-athletes into Track and Field All-Americans throughout the program's rich history. Tara Davis' national title in the long jump, which she won with a collegiate-record mark of 6.93m/22-9, was the 158th NCAA title (inc. relays) won by a Longhorn.
