The Longhorns won their fourth-straight women’s title and first men’s indoor title since 2017 on Saturday.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 11/3 Texas Track and Field program swept the 2021 Big 12 Indoor Championships on Saturday, winning the men's title with 141 points and the women scoring 154.5 points. It is the fourth-straight Big 12 Indoor title for the UT women, and the first since 2017 for the men. The Longhorns are the first team to sweep the Men's and Women's Big 12 Indoor title since 2015, when Texas last achieved that feat.

Kynnedy Flannel was Texas' top scorer at the meet and split High Point performer honors with Texas Tech's Ruth Usoro, as both scored 20 points in Lubbock. Flannel swept the sprint double, winning the 60-meter dash in 7.25 and the 200-meter dash in 22.55. Her 200-meter time set a meet record, ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this season, No. 3 in the world and improved her standing as the No. 3 performer in school history. Flannel's showing also made her just the third Big 12 woman to win the Indoor sprint double since 2006, joining Longhorn Legend Marshevet Hooker and teammate Julien Alfred, who achieved the feat last year. Freshman Kevona Davis finished second to Flannel in both the 60 and 200-meter races. She finished just three-thousandths (0.003) of a second behind Flannel in the 60-meter dash and then clocked a 22.87 in the 200-meter counterpart to move to No. 7 in UT history in the event.
Stacey Ann Williams won her first Big 12 title with a dominant showing in the 400-meter dash. She clocked a lifetime-best 51.60 to capture the crown. Williams' time is the second-fastest in the NCAA this season, and fifth-best in Texas history. The defending champion and fellow Longhorn, Kennedy Simon, finished in second place after running a season-best 52.24. Rhasidat Adeleke also scored three points with a sixth-place finish in the event.
Davicia Patterson added 10 more points to Texas' tally with a title in the 600-yard run. She clocked a 1:18.85 to move to No. 5 in Texas history. Patterson is the first Big 12 600-yard champion to reach the 1:18 threshold since Longhorn Legend Courtney Okolo, a former winner of The Bowerman, accomplished the feat in 2015.
In the 60-meter hurdles, former national champion Chanel Brissett blazed to victory with a school-record 7.89. Her time was a lifetime-best, moved her into a tie for eighth place in NCAA history and gave her possession of the NCAA lead. It was the sixth-fastest time in the world this year as well. Behind Brissett, freshman Emelia Chatfield and senior Tara Davis finished third and fourth, respectively, clocking times of 8.05 and 8.10 to help the Longhorns score 21 points in the event. Chatfield's 8.05 moved her to No. 5 in UT history and No. 5 in the NCAA this season, while Davis' 8.10 pushed her to No. 8 in the NCAA during the current campaign.
The Longhorns' first Big 12 title on the women's side came from Kristine Blazevica in Friday's Pentathlon. There, the Riga, Latvia native finished first or second in four-of-five events to score 4,213 points – the second-best mark in school history. She placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.57) and shot put (12.38m), then won the long jump (6.20m) and 800-meter run (2:22.10). Her mark leaves her behind only Ashtin Zamzow (Mahler) in the UT record book.
On the men's side, the Longhorns claimed four individual conference titles on Saturday.
Micaiah Harris repeated as the Big 12 Indoor champion in the 200-meter dash, claiming his second-straight title in the event on Saturday. He clocked a school-record 20.38 to blaze past the field in his signature event. With his mark in Lubbock, Harris now owns the six fastest 200-meter times indoors on UT record. Harris also scored one point in the 60-meter dash, clocking 6.84 to finish eighth there.
Yusuf Bizimana, a mid-year enrollee, captured the Big 12 title in the mile after holding off a late surge from Texas Tech's Takieddine Hedeilli. Bizimana clocked a 4:05.44 to win, and was followed by scoring finishes from Crayton Carrozza (3rd place/6 pts), Graydon Morris (6th place/3 pts) and Brendan Hebert (8th place/1 pt). Bizimana also took second place in the 800-meter run later in the day, falling short of the top spot by one-hundredth of a second. His time of 1:48.49 helped him leap all the way to No. 3 in Texas history and No. 12 in the NCAA this season.
Tripp Piperi continued to be one of the nation's most dominant competitors, regardless of event group, as he won his sixth career Big 12 shot put title with a throw of 21.00m/68-10.75. Piperi, who set the school record earlier this month, has competed in six Big 12 meets during his career – both indoors and outdoors – and won the shot put title on all six occasions.
The Texas men held a slim two-point lead in the team standings entering the 4x400-meter relay – the final event of the competition. There, the team of Jon Maas, Micaiah Harris, Charles Brockman III and Willington Wright left nothing to chance as they won the event in 3:07.20. Their time was the 12th-fastest on Texas record and clinched the team title for the Horns.
Texas will now turn its attention toward the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 11-13.
