No. 10 Baseball walks off on Air Force

Trey Faltine hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Longhorns the win.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 10 Baseball got a walk-off home run from Trey Faltine to beat Air Force 12-10 on Wednesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Faltine went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer and three RBI.
The Longhorns (27-13, 6-6) jumped out to a big lead before the Falcons chipped away and tied the game in the top of the ninth. Aaron Nixon recorded the win after pitching the top of the ninth.
Murphy Stehly went 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored, while Douglas Hodo II went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.
Air Force opened the game with a solo homer in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Longhorns had a quick answer, as Stehly launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to make the score 2-1.
Texas exploded for six runs on four hits and batted around to take an 8-1 lead in the second inning. Dylan Campbell was hit by a pitch and stole second to start the inning. Mitchell Daly drove in Campbell with an RBI double before Faltine followed with an RBI single.
After walks by Hodo and Stehly loaded the bases, Silas Ardoin cleared them with a double to right field. Skyler Messinger capped off the inning with an RBI single to drive in Ardoin and make the score 8-1.
The Falcons got right back into the game with a five-run top of the third that included two home runs to trim the Texas lead to 8-6.
The Longhorns added a run to the lead in the fifth after Campbell walked, stole second and scored on an RBI double by Hodo to make the score 9-6.
Another tack-on run came home in the sixth after Ivan Melendez and Stehly both singled and Ardoin drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.
Air Force hit two solo homers in the seventh to trim the Longhorns' lead to 10-8 before tying the game up in the top of the ninth.
Joshua Stewart pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, scattering three hits and striking out three batters. Jared Southard pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out the side.
Texas will remain at home this weekend, hosting Baylor for a three-game series starting Friday at 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
