LOS ANGELES, Calif.—A five-run sixth inning sent Texas Baseball to a 6-3 loss at the hands of No. 19 UCLA on Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Bruins took the series, two games to one, in Los Angeles.

The Longhorns got on the board early in the game. In the third inning, with Jake McKenzie on third, Travis Jones got into a rundown between first and second that allowed McKenzie to break for home and plate the game's first run.

In the fourth, Texas upped its lead to 2-0 when, with a full count, sophomore Patrick Mathis crushed a homer to right field for his third solo blast of the season.

In the bottom half of the sixth, things unraveled for the Longhorns. After starting pitcher Connor Mayes allowed a lead-off single, he exited with a 2-0 count on the next batter in favor of Jon Malmin (1-3). The lefthander failed to record an out, allowing two walks and a single to make it 2-1. Freshman Beau Ridgeway entered and allowed three successive singles and a sacrifice bunt, giving UCLA a 5-2 advantage.

The Bruins added one more in the seventh off freshman Nolan Kingham, pushing their lead to 6-2 and out of the Longhorns reach.

With one out in the eighth, three consecutive base hits from Mathis, Kody Clemens and Brady Harlan cut the UCLA lead to 6-3 but that would be all the scoring for Texas in the game. Texas managed two walks and a base hit in the ninth inning, but a strikeout and a fly out put the game away.

Texas is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to No. 3 Texas A&M for a midweek matchup scheduled for 6:35 CT in College Station.
