AUSTIN, Texas—Despite rallying in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the ballgame at 4-4, Texas Baseball dropped the series finale to Oklahoma State 8-4 on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Cowboys (28-15, 12-5 Big 12) were staked to a 1-0 lead in the third off UT starter Kyle Johnston, but the righthander was sharp for most of his outing. In the sixth, however, OSU strung together a single and a pair of doubles to up its lead to 3-0 off the righthander. A one-out pinch-hit single pushed the Cowboy lead to 4-0 before freshman Beau Ridgeway entered and got two outs on one pitch—a lineout double play to Kacy Clemens end the inning.

In the home half of the sixth, however, the Longhorns (20-24, 9-9 Big 12) rallied. Kody Clemens opened the frame with a walk and his brother followed with a free pass of his own two batters later.

After a pitching change, Joe Baker was hit with a pitch to load them up for Patrick Mathis. The right fielder forced home a run with a walk to give the Longhorns their first run.

Zane Gurwitz followed with a fielder's choice RBI before Tyler Rand drove a single up the middle to plate the third Texas run to pull within one at 4-3.

Ridgeway kept the Cowboys off the board in the seventh so that a two-out single by Baker could tie up the ballgame, 4-4.

The deadlock did not last long though, as freshman Chase Shugart (1-2) faced trouble in the eighth. After a leadoff single, Shugart issued a pair of walks and a hit by pitch to allow the Cowboys to regain the lead at 5-4. Eric Dunbar came on in relief of Shugart and, after getting a strikeout, plunked the next better to make it 6-4. A two-RBI single followed and Oklahoma State found itself ahead 8-4.

The loss sent the Longhorns to their first Big 12 series sweep of this season.
