Baseball drops Prairie View A&M, 7-0, on Tuesday night

The Longhorns and Panthers exchanged zeroes through five before Texas broke it open.
AUSTIN, Texas—While impressive pitching controlled most of the game, Texas Baseball broke it open late to take a 7-0 win over visiting Prairie View A&M on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns got four one-hit innings out of starter Connor Mayes who fanned five before exiting.
Freshman lefthander Nick Kennedy (1-1) came on in relief in the fifth and tossed a pair of perfect innings, setting the Longhorns up to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
After Michael Cantu opened the home half with a single, Travis Jones drew a one-out walk to put two on for Texas. Kody Clemens then reached on a fielding error by the first baseman which allowed Cantu to score to make it 1-0. Two batters later, Kacy Clemens reached on a throwing error and the Longhorns led 2-0 over the Panthers.
In the eighth, the Longhorns broke it open.
Jones led off with a single and advanced to second with one out. Tres Barrera—who made his first career start at second base—followed with a walk before Kacy Clemens ripped a 1-2 pitch to straightaway center to plate both runners and put the Longhorns out to a 4-0 advantage.
Joe Baker then responded with a double of his own to score Clemens and Texas went up 5-0 on the Panthers.
Patrick Mathis added a single of his own and moved to third on a throwing error. Up 6-0, Zane Gurwitz hit a sac fly to deep center to push across the final Longhorn run.
With two outs in the eighth, Longhorns senior bullpen catcher James Barton pinch-hit for Cantu. It was Barton's first collegiate at-bat in four years with Texas.
Chase Shugart (4), who came on in the eighth, finished out the ballgame with a double play and a groundout to earn his fourth save of the year and seal the 7-0 win for Texas.
The Longhorns head to Morgantown, W. Va., this weekend for a three-game Big 12 Conference series against West Virginia.
