Forty Acres Insider: March 4
03.04.2026 | Forty Acres Insider
Important news happening in and around Texas Athletics compiled by Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte

Longhorn Nation,
The calendar flips to March and the HORNS ARE STAMPEDING. Our Longhorns charged into the new month with a sensational 13-0 weekend, bringing the Texas Fight wherever they went. Men's Basketball made the trip to College Station and came away with a 76-70 win over Texas A&M in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown, while Women's Basketball capped a 28-win regular season with a 72-65 victory at No. 24 Alabama. On the diamond, Baseball swept its way to the BRUCE BOLT College Classic tourney title at Daikin Park, highlighted by Coach Schloss' 1,000th career win. Softball kept rolling with a 4-0 showing at the Longhorn Invitational, stretching its win streak to 17. Men's and Women's Tennis added four more SEC victories to the weekend tally. And Longhorn racquets were en fuego on the professional level as well, with Peyton Stearns raising the ATX Open championships trophy right here in Austin. The action only intensifies from here! Women's Basketball now heads to the SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C., earning the No. 3 seed and double-bye into Friday's quarterfinal (Game Time: 7:30 p.m. CT/SEC Network) after a 13-3 mark in league play. Men's Basketball is in its regular-season stretch run before the SEC Tournament in Nashville next week. Selection Sunday for both the NCAA Men's and Women's Tournament is March 15 with March Madness on the horizon. Meanwhile, Swimming and Diving and Track and Field set their sights on the upcoming NCAA Championships. March is here. The stakes are higher. What a time to be a Longhorn — let's keep the stampede rolling!
5-0 Sunday caps a perfect 13-0 weekend for 🤘🏻

Talk about WINNING ON THE COURT AND IMPACTING LIVES OFF IT — that's what it's all about. The 10K for 10k game was once again a tremendous success for Coach Schaefer and No. 4 Women's Basketball. A crowd of 10,136 witnessed our Horns secure their 42nd-straight home victory (79-50 over No. 23 Georgia) — completing a perfect 18-0 record in The Mood during the regular season — while raising an incredible $132,000 for Neighborhood Longhorns. Our Horns followed that up with a 72-65 road win at No. 24 Alabama — a nation-leading 12th win over a top-25 opponent — to close the regular season at 28-3. Now it's SEC Tourney time, and we're off to Greenville, S.C., in quest of a title. Horns Up and let the madness begin!

Men's Basketball was hoopin' it up, too! TEXAS FIGHT WAS ON FULL DISPLAY in College Station as our Horns battled for a 76-70 victory over Texas A&M. There's nothing sweeter than raising that Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown hardware — especially in enemy territory — and walking out with bragging rights over the Aggies. Now as we stampede into March, Coach Miller and our squad close out the regular season with momentum. Winners in six of our last eight and sitting at 9-7 in SEC play (18-11 overall), it's off to Fayetteville to face No. 20 Arkansas tonight (6 p.m. CT/ESPN2) before hosting a Red River Rivalry versus Oklahoma on Saturday (7:30 p.m. CT/SEC Network). The SEC Tourney tips off next Wednesday in Nashville — and our Horns are aiming to finish the regular season with a bang.

No. 3-ranked Baseball captured the BRUCE BOLT COLLEGE CLASSIC TITLE in Houston and followed that with a 16-3 run-rule victory over Houston Christian on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, pushing our record to a perfect dozen (12-0) on the season. That's our best start to a season since the 2005 team opened the year with 16-straight wins (and we all know what Coach Garrido and the squad did that year!). We had a blast in Space City and here's to an emphatic Horns Up to Coach Schloss on a truly remarkable milestone — career win No. 1,000 — secured in a 5-2 victory over Baylor on Saturday night at Daikin Park, home of the Astros. Only seven active coaches have reached 1,000 career Division I wins — and we're blessed that one of them is leading our program. Coach Schloss has won everywhere he's been, and I've been fortunate to work with him at two of those places. We're thrilled he's building on his legacy right here on the Forty Acres. Take a bow my friend — a major milestone, with many more victories ahead. And how about the week our guy Temo Becerra had? He hit .500 with three home runs to earn SEC Player of the Week honors. Kudos to Temo as well! We're right back at The Disch this week hosting the Spartans of USC Upstate for a weekend series. Can't wait to see you at the ballpark!
congratulations, @CoachSchloss 🤘#HookEm pic.twitter.com/UQELgMt5ro

Coach White and No. 3 Softball continued to do their thing as our defending National Champions added four more wins at the Longhorn Invitational at Red & Charline McCombs field — stretching their streak to 17-STRAIGHT VICTORIES. All four wins came via the run rule by a combined tally of 37-3. That's dominance. It was a total team effort, with four different pitchers earning victories — highlighted by Teagan Kavan tossing her second career no-hitter on Sunday, backed by stellar defense throughout the weekend. The offense was explosive once again, launching six home runs from five different players, including a pair of bombs from Katie Stewart. When the circle is dealing and the bats are booming, that's a tough combination for anyone in the country to handle. Now sitting at a sparkling 19-1 on the season, it's time to roll into SEC play as our Horns hit the road for a series against South Carolina in Columbia.
Track and Field delivered a pair of individual champions at the SEC Indoor Championships last week, and we're so grateful to everyone who came out to support Beach Volleyball at the Orange-White scrimmage at the Wright-Whitaker Sports Complex on Saturday. Ain't nothin' gonna break our stride — we just keep on movin'. Beyond Baseball, Basketball and Softball, it's a packed week across the Forty Acres. After SEC road wins at Missouri and Vanderbilt, No. 14 Women's Tennis hosts No. 31 Alabama on Thursday (2 p.m. CT) and No. 33 Mississippi State on Saturday (Noon CT). No. 2 Men's Tennis grabbed a road win at No. 22 South Carolina and followed that with a home sweep over No. 13 Georgia — marking their ninth-straight victory, including seven over top-25 opponents — to move to 4-0 in SEC play. This week they face two top-10 teams, first versus No. 6 LSU on Friday (6 p.m. CT) before stepping out of conference for the last time in the regular season to host No. 7 TCU on Saturday (6 p.m. CT). No. 5 Beach Volleyball heads to Los Angeles for four matches against a loaded field, including No. 1 Stanford, No. 17 Grand Canyon and No. 18 Washington. No. 4 Men's Golf completed play in Las Vegas yesterday with Christiaan Maas winning the individual title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, while No. 9 Women's Golf is in Hilton Head, S.C., for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate — where Farah O'Keefe stormed out to a round one 64 on Monday, tying the tourney, course, and program record for low 18-hole round. And Soccer heads to Houston for a spring match against the Houston Dash on Saturday (Houston Sports Park/1 p.m. CT). IT'S ALL HORNS. ALL THE TIME. LET'S HOOK 'EM!
plenty of chances to see the Horns this week 🤘#HookEm pic.twitter.com/QtPnuDfUaE

And before we get to the notes, I've got to give a shoutout to Coach Sark and our seven guys who put on a show at the NFL Combine. From the media room to the turf, our Longhorns showed up in a big way. Whether it was the interviews — including this classic soundbite from our guy Michael Taaffe — or a blazing 4.51 in the 40 from Anthony Hill Jr., or our big man DJ Campbell showing his Texas-best in the drills, there was no shortage of impressive moments as these guys went after their NFL dreams. DBU is alive and well, my friends. Malik Muhammad showcased his speed and shined in every on-field rep, and Mr. Taaffe had himself a great day at the office, too.

LLH Healthcare tabbed the Official Employee Benefits Sponsor of Texas Athletics
Some exciting news from Longhorn Sports Properties (LSP) on the sponsorship front. LLH Healthcare and Texas Athletics have announced a new long-term, multi-faceted sponsorship designed to reach The University of Texas community and businesses through year-round storytelling in the spirit of LLH's "Live Life Healthy" mantra. The comprehensive collaboration, facilitated by LSP – our locally-based team of Learfield and exclusive multimedia rights holder for Texas Athletics – names LLH Healthcare as the Official Employee Benefits Sponsor of Texas Athletics. Additionally, Texas Athletics' first-of-its-kind free streaming platform, LHN (Longhorn Network), will now be known as LHN presented by LLH in a collaboration that places LLH Healthcare front and center with Longhorns fans everywhere while they watch live press conferences, pre-game shows, original content, and more. We're giving you even more reasons to download that LHN app, my friends!
Carly Northup tabbed Executive Senior Associate AD for Longhorn Foundation
We have some exciting staffing news for Texas Athletics this week as we have new leadership in the Longhorn Foundation. Carly Northup has been named our new Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for the Longhorn Foundation, elevating into the role following the departure of Andrew Hamor. Carly is an extraordinary leader — forward-thinking, strategic, and a proven member of our staff for the last several years. She has earned our complete confidence as she continues to grow and expand the tremendous philanthropic success of the Longhorn Foundation, an organization with a rich and proud history in Texas Athletics. We're thrilled to begin a new era with Carly leading the Longhorn Foundation. I'm excited to see her take the reins and continue building on this incredible momentum.
It's a great day for Texas Athletics as Carly Northup has been named Executive Senior Associate AD for the Longhorn Foundation!

Men's Basketball gears up for Saturday's Senior Night battle against our Red River rivals
Like I said in the intro, the calendar has flipped to March so it's time to bring on the Madness! Coach Miller has our guys playing their best basketball of the season, winning six of their last eight and seven of their last 10 games entering tonight's contest at No. 20 Arkansas (6 p.m. CT/ESPN2). I was so proud of the Texas Fight our team showed in College Station during Saturday's 76-70 win in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown, especially on the defensive end of the court where the Longhorns recorded a season-high nine blocks and held the Aggies to just over 38-percent shooting from the floor. Following tonight's action, there's just one game remaining in the regular season. Longhorn Nation, we need you to PACK THE MOOD ON SATURDAY NIGHT when we host a red-hot Oklahoma team that comes to town having won five of its last seven games. Tip will be at 7:30 p.m. CT (SEC Network), but make plans to arrive early and be in your seats by 7:10 for our Senior Night festivities. And let's bring the energy from The Eyes to the Eyes as we look to put over one more win and improve our seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament and our standing for a spot in the Big Dance! See y'all Saturday night at Moody Center.

Women's Basketball earns SEC individual honors before heading to Greenville
With the end of the regular season, the SEC announced its postseason awards for Women's Basketball on Tuesday and to no surprise our duo of Madison Booker and Rori Harmon were the recipients of some well-deserved recognition. Mid-Range Maddie earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team, while our point guard extraordinaire Rori Harmon claimed All-SEC Second Team honors. In addition, Rori was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team, pretty fitting for our senior who broke the program's all-time record for steals and now has 365 career thefts. Now the focus shifts to Greenville, S.C., where our Longhorns compete at the SEC Tournament after a double-bye as the No. 3 seed and will open play on Friday night (7:30 p.m. CT/SEC Network). Let's bring back the trophy, ladies!
