The Longhorns look to build upon a strong first half of the indoor season on Saturday in College Station.
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 11/5 Texas Track and Field program continues into the second half of its 2021 Indoor season this weekend, as the Longhorns head to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational.
Through three meets, the Longhorns have produced 18 NCAA top-16 performances (10 women/8 men) this season. Leading that group are NCAA leaders Tripp Piperi (Men's Shot Put) and Leo Neugebauer (Men's Heptathlon). On the women's side, Chanel Brissett (No. 2 – 60m Hurdles), Kynnedy Flannel (No. 3 – 200m), Tara Davis (No. 4 – Long Jump), Kevona Davis (No. 5 – 200m) and Kennedy Simon (No. 5 – 400m) all currently rank in the top five nationally.
The Longhorns' impressive start to the 2021 campaign has left a number of the current roster's names scattered throughout the program's record book. Most notably for the men in that group, Piperi has improved his standing as the No. 2 shot put thrower in school history, Neugebauer moved up to No. 3 on Texas' top performers list in the heptathlon and Graydon Morris became the No. 5 performer in the 3000m after winning the event in his collegiate indoor debut at the Wooo Pig Classic on Jan. 22. For the women, Kristine Blazevica's 4,057-point pentathlon last weekend moved her to No. 2 in school history, Davis' best jump of the year pushed her to No. 3 in the long jump, Kiana Lowery became the fourth-best weight thrower on UT record and Chanel Brissett tied for fifth in school history in the 60m hurdles.
The Charlie Thomas Invitational takes place on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station. The women's long jump and shot put competitions are scheduled to get the day started at 11 a.m. CT, with the remainder of events to be held throughout the day. The men's and women's 4x400-meter relays will close out the meet at approximately 6:35 p.m. CT.
